From Our Reporters:

  • When it comes to preventing suicides, the Army believes it often has enough information on at-risk soldiers to spot them ahead of time and intervene before they take their own lives. The trouble is that information isn’t shared between various Army components and commands. Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu reports on an Army IT program that aims to fix that. Read Jared’s story and listen to his report.
  • In his first policy speech since taking office, Defense Sec. Chuck Hagel offered a stern warning about how his agency will operate moving forward. Francis talked with Federal Drive Host Tom Temin about the tone of Hagel’s speech. Listen to the interview.
  • Sequestration furloughs are no laughing matter. But they may not turn out to be quite as bad as some predictions indicated. Federal News Radio Senior Correspondent Mike Causey says if you got all ruffled about sequestration, it might be partly our fault. Read Mike’s column and listen to his interview with Francis.
  • The first listening session to implement President Barack Obama’s executive order on cybersecurity is complete and two central themes are emerging. One — collaboration must underlie the entire process to create the cybersecurity framework. Two — the framework must go beyond the basics of managing security risks. Federal News Radio’s Jason Miller spoke with Francis about the details on the emerging cyber order roadmap. Read his article and listen to his interview with Francis.
  • The combined effects of sequestration and internal cost growth inside the Pentagon mean, within the next 10 years, most of the agency’s money will go to just two budget categories — military personnel, and operations and maintenance. Read DoD reporter Jared Serbu’s article and listen to his report.
