Britannia hails the Joint Strike Fighter program

Britain\'s Defense Minister, Liam Fox, has written a letter to Sen. Carl Levin expressing support for the Joint Strike Fighter program.

Britain’s Defense chief is calling on Congress to approve funding to build a back-up engine for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Liam Fox says that ending the program would be more expensive for the U.S. and its partners in the long run. President Obama has threatened a veto of any defense bill that funds the program. The British firm Rolls Royce has partnered with General Electric to build the second engine. Congress Daily reports that Fox addressed his concerns in a letter to Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin, who also supports the back-up engine. The Pentagon has said continuing the program would be too expensive.
