Defense contractor Lockheed Martin has submitted its proposal to modernize the Navy’s shipboard computing system.
Boston.com reports the company won’t say how much its proposal costs because of the competitive bidding process.
The Navy selected Lockheed and Northrop Grumman to submit designs for new computer systems and is expected to choose one of them early next year to implement the system.
The CANES program — which stands for Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services — would consolidate five older computer networks into one new shipboard computing system.
The Navy said installation of the new system — which it aims to have on more than 190 ships and submarines by 2021 — should begin next year.
