The promise of a single a joint electronic health record system has long stymied the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.

The two departments recently stepped back from a plan that required building a joint EHR system, but VA is still calling on DoD to adopt its system, VistA, to improve interoperability.

While the delays and hold-ups have frequently drawn the ire of veterans and lawmakers alike, they’ve never been considered fodder for late-night comedy shows.

Until now.
