The government says it aims for transparency, but reporters on the beat say they’re not finding much.
That’s according to a new Society of Professional Journalists survey.
GovExec reported:
The Society of Professional Journalists found that agency press staff subjected reporters to “alarming” rules requiring preapproval of interviews with employees, some outright prohibitions on interviews and sometimes-intrusive monitoring of interviews once they were granted. The survey was completed by 146 Washington-based reporters between Jan. 23 and Feb. 24.
Tom Shoop, the editor-in-chief at Government Executive magazine, joined In Depth with Francis Rose to discuss the survey and what it says about federal agencies and how they work — or don’t — with journalists.
