  • When will across the board cuts end?
    contrarian
The message is that Feds are overpaid. Rather than say which ones get too much, they've cut across the board as an interim measure. Reality is, if they really believed Feds were overpaid, they'd name names. E.g. FBI agents in Boston investigating terrorists are overpaid by 10%. Just wait till OPM does desk audits of every job in civil service. Or maybe they'll just contract us all out? Oh wait, we've already found that means 28 y.o. IT guys cost $250,000/year. What a tangled web. They don't need a crystal ball they just need to get their acts together.

  • whatever happened to pay parity
    Rob
It almost got to the point where pay parity with the military was automatic. Now you hardly ever hear the words spoken even from the unions.

  • Soul selling?
    Moderate
what does the pay raise have to do with ACA? Just because we support medical insurance for those who cannot afford it, that does not mean we sold our souls. Guess you cannot understand that.

  • Yeah, but....
    Rob
I think everyone is in favor of affordable healthcare, but we could have achieved that goal without ruining it for those who already had it.

  • ACA
    Moderate
ACA is for those who cannot afford insurance. There are other items in the law, some of which I disagree with. One that I agree with is that everyone must be insured. (There are some exceptions that should not be.

  • Joe Public know how much contracting out costs the Govt? NARFE political TV ad?
    Honest Broker
As Contrarian pointed out, does the general public recognize (or care) that contracting out services drives up the cost rather than bringing it down. POGO.ORG investigated in 2011 the cost of outsourcing to contractors costs taxpayers 2 to 5 times more than if they just hired people into the Govt. Majority of Americans come home tired and want to watch it on TV, but I have not seen anything about contractor cuts on the mainstream media such as World News, 60 Minutes, etc. The most crucial time to release this contracting out saves money myth is close to elections, but you never see it. Wonder if NARFE could pull back their lobbying funding and apply it to political ads during the election season? With only 2 major political parties, its an uphill battle but it could change public opinion and focus them on the real problem and vote them out. NARFE where are you?

  • Reality
    Remember When
The message may be that Feds are overpaid, but the reality is that any Fed outside the House or Senate is still working, serving their country and keeping the government afloat. The reality is that an Agency like the IRS can bring in 4.2 trillion dollars, yet have to face their budget being cut; the reality is that we send billions and billions of dollars overseas to other countries for ridiculous things and we can't take care of our own people here in the good ol' USA; the reality is that both the Senate and the House are so out of touch with reality and what is really going on; and the reality is that lobbyist control much of what is happening in the house and senate; the reality is that gas prices will continue to rise as will insurance premiums, food, etc. Is it fair? Absolutely not. Does it make good business sense? Absolutely not. Are our elected officials doing what they were elected to do? Absolutely not. There are millions of ways that we can trim the fat, but it needs to start from the top down. Joe Smoe in Po-dunk anywhere USA is not the problem and blaming feds for everything that is just like putting up a smoke screen because it takes the focus off of what they are or are not doing. It's just unfair. Congress doesn't need a magic 8 ball to figure out what to do, they just need to dust off their balls and start doing what they were elected to do, stop blaming Feds and stop trying to be so politically correct.
