  • Inflation is real, it's your pay plan that's phony

While private sector roars back and bonuses and travel flow, Fed Emps can't even scrounge a real COLA. Yes Mike calls it a pay increase, because that's technically what it is, but either way it's time for a catch-up. Of course, we have to get through furloughs and govt shut down first, and it's clear that DC no longer functions properly. Must need billions more for the middle east, the sinkhole where all our national treasure goes.

  • Thank all politicians for this disaster

Many may disagree, but I believe, that while sequestration is in effect, there will be nil or no pay raise. Let us thank all of the politicians for this disaster.

My pay is not standing still. It has been reduced. I am on my 5th furlough day and my pay for this year will be lower than it was before the pay freezes with more furloughs lined up for next year. I am not only losing the COLA for this year but the one before that too. This means less into SS, less into my TSP and FERS. These pay cuts will affect me for the rest of my life. Every lost COLA and every year of furloughs will mean another year I will have to work before I can retire. Those that can retire now should, because you are just going to lose more money by hanging around. Until I can do that I have resorted to EBay to clean out my house and pay some bills. A short term solution, but if they are shutting down the government, then I will need to have those credit cards paid off as best I can. The ride will only get bumpier through the mid term elections.

I don't know what else to conclude in the fact that we are $17 trillion in debt and the Congress & President don't see a problem with running deficits every year. This is the primary cause of the economic woes to which our nation is being subjected. The failure of the government in this arena really highlights its wrongful treatment of its Federal employees, as if not giving them a COLA and forcing upon them a %20 paycut through the furlough is going to fix the problem. In DoD alone, I have read they are saving $1.9-2.1 billion in this action, yet that same governmental injustice is made worse when the government then gives that much money to other nations. This cannot be concluded to be about saving money as the government cannot seem to even balance their checkbook while giving away phones to the poor which is abused beyond belief. I would think the poor would need jobs and food, not cell phones. There is something seriously wrong and broken with our government's approach to the economy. Is this being done with malicious intent? I don't know how anyone could conclude differently.

yes, there is a problem with the deficits. However, we need to spend the money because of the huge economic slop that the previous administration handed to the nation. Otherwise, we could have had a herbert Hoover great depression.

  • Cutout foreign subsidies and let economics take its course
    Honest Broker
Americans watch billions of dollars shelled out for foreign aide like to Egypt, so they keep the canal open for cheaper gas. That aide money only goes to Corporations supplying food, ammo, equipment, medicines, etc. This support just perpetuates the civil unrest indefinitely. What would happen if we just directed the oil shipments around Africa until Egypt got their act together? Cost of gas would go up along with other items tied to transportation. Would the rise in the cost of gas match the billions in foreign aide? Doubt it. Oil companies would offer financial incentives to Egypt to keep the Suez Canal clear and safe. The difference would be our taxes would not go into the coffers of companies that make money off war and civil unrest. We need to let civil unrest run its course, but not keep sending money to fix the problem. It only ends up in corporations that profit from wars and civil unrest.
