  • End of year funds?
    marxwj
By the time they add up the left over end of year funds, the furloughs for this year will be over. At best, they may get one or two days at the tail end of things. It is better than nothing, but that is about all it is better than.

  • Not spending enough?
    Stewart
Hey Chuck! Why don't you schedule a meeting with the writers of this e-mail who chewed everybody out for not spending enough money! Apparently, they went looking under the couch. How can you sleep at night? http://www.scribd.com/doc/152944425/DISA-Spending-Memo

  • Furlough For Me...I Wish
    JoeO
As a contractor I would welcome a furlough: private industry's response to the shortfall in resources is to fire us and worry about hiring people back later, if & when business picks up again, even if they expect business to pick up again.

  • Greed driving poor decisions on Capitol Hill, so all suffer in the end
    Honest Broker
People working DOD, Govt and Contractor, all are proud of their job and try to do their best. They all want to get paid for their efforts and all would like some form of job security if possible. Unfortunately, we have gotten ourselves wrapped up in two war reconstruction projects in Afghanistan and then Iraq. Nothing good ever comes out of war, but in this case Corp America came out with great financial growth. As it turns out, its at the taxpayer's expense and that outpaced our income without increasing taxes. Back in Sep 2011 under the Bad Business Report to Congress, POGO.ORG found that using contract labor costs 2 to 5 times more than an equivalent Govt employee with all benefits included. It seems to me that if a job is deemed important and will last indefinitely, it seems more practical to insource and bring into the Govt the contract person doing it. My contractors complain their companies never pay for training, so no vested capitol lost there. Corp America has already made all their money, so they will just have to go find commercial work. Otherwise, when the money runs out then everyone is out of job and the ones that made all the money will disappear. Wonder if our politicians will let that happen or just raise taxes? Greed clouds judgement.

Stop figuring this out on our backs. How dare you go on vacation before this is done. I hope to vote you ALL out.

  • All DODs Fault
    Stewart
The furlough scam rests solely on Hagel and the Comptrollers. He used the civilians as pawns in a game of chicken and lost. Now he's pretending he cares and as if he somehow managed to find money to cut back the number of days. But the truth is the money's been there the whole time. The Comptrollers have even been sending nastygrams to all commands telling them they haven't been spending enough and need to spend more!!! Chuck and company realize its going to be mighty hard to explain the year end buying spree after they sent everyone home without pay. That's why they are in a mad dash to waste the money fast now so the timing doesn't look so bad.

  • Thrown Off and Under the Bus
    jw of conway
Approximately 7% (50 employees) in my organization are being furloughed and losing two days of pay every pay period for no reason. Money to fully fund their salaries is sitting unused and will simply be carried over to the next year. Adding further insult, other non-military funds are sitting unused and could be made available to fund these 50 employees or the so called war effort. Senior DOD decision makers and members of congress (I no longer use the term leaders as there are none) are doing a grave disservice to these employees and the nation by not only throwing these token employees off the bus, but under the bus.
