They keep acting like sequestration/furlough is the end of the world. At the end of the day, the overly protected feds still have jobs, benefits, and pensions. So quit crying.

This forum is not meant for people like you to denigrate and abuse federal employees. Your comment is inappropriate and offensive. It is also very unwelcome. Shame on you.

Yes, I am complaining. We are grossly underpaid based on basic salary. The furloughs make things worse. We are supposed to have security and a good pension which we pay dearly for. Furloughs were forced on us by the donkey politicians. Of course, if someone wants government help, furloughs are not an excuse per someone like you. Cut your nonsense.

  • I don't want government help
    tgn
I want efficient government. Not overpriced sacred government. I stroke the checks every quarter and I'm not getting a return on my investment. Could you imagine if the average worker was a thin skinned as a fed worker? the streets would be flooded with oh poor me tears. cry me a river. Sequestration is a drop in the bucket that inevitably must happen. Or as your dear leader and savior would say, just a bump in the road.

They may or may not get CSRS and FERS. However, is their plan based on the regular plan or law enforcement plan? Law enforcement gets a 1.7% per year benefit under FERS and I am not sure under CSRS. Regular benefit is 1.0% under FERS unless the person retires at age 62 or older when it is 1.1%.

  • Incorrect, Congress is "special"
    hello
Members of Congress (and staff) pay in at a slightly higher rate. The original FERS contribution rate was 0.8% but 1.7% for congress, however congress annuities computed at 1.7% of high-3 vice 1.0%. http://www.opm.gov/retirement-services/fers-information/computation/ I believe new fed employee contributions are: Regular feds go from 0.8% to 3.1%, Congressional employees from 1.3% to 3.6%.

TGN gets up at 6:00 AM to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and work as advertised. ..... All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now TGN gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. TGN’s bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry. ..... TGN takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. TGN dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor. ..... TGN begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. TGN's employer pays these standards because TGN's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If TGN is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune. ..... It's noon time, TGN needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. TGN’s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some liberal wanted to protect TGN’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the depression. ..... TGN has to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market federal student loan because some stupid liberal decided that TGN and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his life-time. ..... TGN is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dad's; his car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electric until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Republicans would still be sitting in the dark.) ..... He is happy to see his dad who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so TGN wouldn't have to. ..... After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home. TGN turns on a radio talk show. The host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn't tell TGN that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit TGN enjoys throughout his day). TGN agrees. "We don't need those big government liberals ruining our lives; after all, I'm a self made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."

  • Why do only Liberals get credit for clean water and safe food
    contrarian
What a crock, so you're saying non-Liberals want to poison and kill people? If you don't know the difference between sufficient government and excessive government, well, that would be the definition of a Liberal.

It is the radical right that wants to kill the consumer protection agency. It is the radical right that hates the EPA for fighting for clean air, water, etc. It is the radical right that still does not get the climate change issue. So your words about poisoning ring truer than you think.

  • "...non-Liberals want to poison and kill people?"
    FERS_Fed
Pretty much looks that way, Contrarian. I refer you to this past Thursday's House vote on the farm bill. To get enough conservative votes to pass it, they had to strip out funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program that helps children, the elderly and the disabled get enough to eat. Didn't touch the federal subsidies to agribusinesses and farmers, though.

  • Get facts straight - Govt employees cost less than contracted services
    Honest Broker
TGN read the Sept 2011 Bad Business Report by Govt watchdog group, POGO.ORG, that does not play favorites. You have some media generated misconceptions about Govt employees and how they are overpaid, but instead serve a valuable purpose and cost less than commercial ones. Unfortunately, many do not make much so a 20 percent pay cut until October has a major impact. You should redirect your disgust with the Govt towards your politicians who are tanking the budget by unnecessary and overpaid contracts. Wonder what waste was slipped in under the new Farm Bill?
