  • The DoD is going to Trust WHOM?
    Galt
in Business School speak, this sharing and synergy and etc. all sounds great, and certain to lead to a number of benefits for the DoD. The NIST group that cooks up these standards is more or less indistinguishable from the NSA/DISA, right? So what could go wrong? Well... one example, for DoD cyber types, is outlined in a DoJ IG report from 2002 or 2004 relating to the FBI's LOSS of firearms AND laptop computers. (Yes, the IG chose to lump the two together). These machines were Pre-Configured to access the Bureau's system, and regularly weren't reported lost for weeks or months afterwards. But please, don't take my word on this, as it's a public document and has to be read to be believed. Finally, STANDARDS are not the same thing as IMPLEMENTATION of standards... So who's going to have custody over the custodians at the DHS?
