  • The Sad Truth
    ben
The Federal Health Benefit Plan should have been the guideline for Obamacare, minus civil service rules. It serves all ages, all medical conditions, and since its a pool, costs are averaged out and kept relatively low. It wouldn't have required 2000 pages of law and another 20,000 pages of regulations.

Believe it or not, Republican Congressmen actually made that exact same proposal about 25 years ago. I do not believe any Republican would support it today, however. The FHBP works just as well as always, only now the GOP mantra is that the government can't do anything right. Still that has not stopped them from joining the FHBP.

  • The Sadder Truth...
    FERS Fed
... is that today's GOP opposes ANYTHING (other than tax cuts, and even that might not be a sure bet) that would represent compromise with, or reflect positively on, the President.

I think the whole thing is pretty funny. AARP and many large insurance companies actively lobbied for the "Affordable" Care Act. Rep. Pelosi was right...they had to pass it to see what was in it. The FEHB insurers are going to take a HUGE hit when federal workers are forced against their will into the state exchanges (which most states don't even have set up yet). Yep, passing bills without reading them...not giving anyone a chance to review them or respond...forcing them without any bipartisan support...and this is what you get. If you voted for the folks that pushed this abomination on us all...not so happy-clappy now, are you? Hope you change.

You omit the rest of Rep. Pelois's quote, which is "...away from the fog of the controversy." ..... You know, all the conservative nonsense like Sarah Palin's 'death panels'. .... So remind us again, what is the GOP's health care alternative?

  • Your forgot to mention Obama
    Moderate
How about the year when the bill was passed. obama invited them to participate in the planning of the law. They refused until the law was almost completely prepared. Then the Republicans said let's start over. Nice stall tactic, but it failed. Instead the Republicans yapped about the granny death panels and other nonsense.

  • Expect To See Delay
    ben
I suspect there will be a one year delay in implementing the state exchanges as the time is so short. This will give breathing time and, since 2015 abuts next election year, there is a chance. Still, I better shop around for Medicare Plan B supplemental.

It's full four corner stall right now. I really feel sorry for the next President. He or She is really inheriting the Decline of Rome.

  • Political Posturing
    jst
Look folks, this is a political posturing tactic that will force a precedent on the Congress and the Senate. Up until now, both branches of the legislation has been giving this a shrug. This however is about to all change. Now that there is a chance the legislation is going to be impacted, this will force the re-look at Obama Care and will cause a recall on the previsions that the program calls for. This could be a ploy to force the rethinking of the program and thus refuel the idea of abolishing the ACA once and for all. Remember how the FFA had their furloughs abolished? Well lets see what type of reaction happens when Congress and the Senate know they too will be affected by this proposed transition.

  • Federal Exchange
    ben
For states that did not set up an exchange, the federal government is supposed to. With so many states choosing not to, I suspect there may be a one year delay.

Not sure, but think it rhymes with 'blued' and 'tatooed'. ..... Aren't you glad Gov. McCrory (R) chose the welfare of health insurance CEOs over the health of the people of NC?

  • "...when the feds cut their share in a few years."?

That will only happen if Rep. Paul Ryan's plans to voucherize Medicare/Medicaid come to pass. ..... In addition to your other skills and abilities, you are able to see the future, too? Wow.

Rightists have been doing that for years. They hate Obama and spread all sorts of predictions that never happen. An example is the granny death panel.
