Nice try, FAA. Your budget's doubled and for what??? Air travel hasn't doubled since your budget doubled. One of the most wasteful federal agencies in D.C. You've got a lot of nerve asking for this money right now.

I heard the Congressional hearing on this topic yesterday, the reason the budget is higher: The FAA is transitioning to the NextGen ATC system. While they do, they have to keep the outdated, radar-based system up & running. So, they have to essentially run two ATC systems side-by-side. This is to keep the flying public (like you) safe. Would be nice if you appreciated what they are doing.

"LaHood said he and Huerta "offered our apologies to them for the fact that we had not kept them informed." This is in reference to two FAA officials getting grilled at a hearing for not keeping Congress informed. WHAT??? The effects of the sequester have been talked about endlessly for many months now. CONGRESS knew full well there would be a problem, but they stuck their heads in the sand and did nothing. Now that the sequester is actually happening, they are claiming ignorance and trying to shift the blame. SHAME ON YOU CONGRESS!!

  • Really?

So they want to stop the furlough for FAA because "common ordinary citizens" are being affected. Doesn't furlough affect the "common ordinary citizens" that help support this great nation by being civil servants? People are being inconvenienced so let’s stop furloughing FAA. Sequestration is hitting DOD the hardest, don’t you thing that “common ordinary citizens” will be affected if there is a lapse in Defense capability? I guess that will all be figured out after something happens and it is too late.

  • What about the rest of the furloughed FAA employees?
    NoleChick
Why isn't anything being said of what is going to happen to FAA employees who AREN'T controllers??? Are we going to have to eat the furlough days that would've gone to controllers instead??

  • Furloughs
    B H.
All Federal employees are citizens who are affected by these Furloughs/layoffs, not just the people trying to travel. Why should the FAA get special treatment when so many other federal agencies are taking this hit. Every Citizen will be affected by these furloughs one way or another, so if you allow FFA not to furlough END the furloughs for ALL Federal Agencies including DOD! Only FAIR.

  • Furloughs

And by the way, All Agencies are working with a 2010 Budget, being this was the last time an actual budget was passed by Congress. So what funds were appropriated by CONGRESS at that time is all you are allowed to legally spend... On exactly what they allocated it for. Monies cannot be moved from one pot to another without going back to Congress for approval. And they claim they were not being informed, they should know where they allocated the money and how Everyone would be affected by these furloughs!
