That ain't squat compared to my 20% I have to give up on my $75000 salary....and I pay for my house, car, gas, food, and everything else the president doesn't pay for....to include vacation for his children and the security it took for them to fly where they went. Are we supposed to be impressed with this measley 5%? And now he is going to fly to Connecticut to talk about guns....wow, that's a big one for ya...why can't he just put it on tv and talk to the nation? cheaper and he doesn't have to fly anywhere spending tax dollars....

  • He's giving
    Sam B
He's giving up 5% of his *annual* salary. You'd be giving up 20% of your bi-weekly pay. There's a bit of a difference. Even if you were furloughed one day a pay period from May 5 to September 30, that's 11 days or about 4.2% of your annual.

....but this is what I've found so far (making his "give-up" meaningLIES (expense account I assume includes clothes, outside dinners, entertainment, not even including the costs associated with his extravagent use of AF1, the Secret Service, etc). Does he get to pocket any "left-over" expense account monies? During his term of office, the Pres. has use of the White House for his residence, and office. Transportation is available to the pres. which is; specially built automobiles, jets, and helicopters. The Pres. also has use of Camp David, a mountain resort in Maryland. Presently President Obama, also receives $400,000 a year, he has a $150,000 expense account, a $100,000 travel account, and a $19,000 entertainment account.

whoopdedooooooo! He aint giving up crap. Now if he had said 20% I might have been impressed....someone who has money gives up nothing if it doesn't hurt them financially....sorry, but that is like someone tithing 10% of $5,000,000 a year....might as well tithe 20% if you got that kind of monet.

Found this on the internet, so take it for what it's worth (and I would assume these annual benefits, not for the full 4-year term): Official Expense Accounts The president has several expense accounts, none of which are taxable. The general account is $50,000 to use as the president sees fit. Additionally, there is a $19,000 entertainment budget. He also has access to a $1 million "unanticipated needs" account to be used for official purposes. • 5% percent
    GilbertJ
5% percent is smaller than 20% from the federal workers paycheck

  • Wrong
    Sam B
See my response above to suthernwmn. This is more than most federal employees are facing. The furloughs that feds are facing would reduce their paycheck by 20% for the furlough period only. That's about May-September, if that, and only equates to about 4% for the year. The President is giving back 5% of his entire annual salary.

  • 5%
    jimmie55
He already doesn't work several days a week. Too busy golfing and partying on our tax dollars, plus those numerous vacations. Does he ever stay and do any work at the White House? We should all get a rebate on his pay!

  • many fewer vacation days than W
    Jerry A.
Did jimmie55 complain when W took more vacation days than any previous (or succeeding) President? I highly doubt it.
