  • Congressional Divas WIth Distorted Mirrors
    Lisa Lisa
Over the 12 yrs, Congress has become more blatanly members of the pampered pets AKA PP or Pee Pee. They spew vile assessments of fed workers but fail to see in the mirror that they are one too. They want to fire inept workers, yet they dont look in the mirror and see that the epic failures are themselves.Everyone was subject to Sequestration but themselves. No one got bonuses except THEIR staffers. As for the backpedaling, I think many agencies made large assumptions because Congress FAILED to provide a FY budget in October. Agencies didnt have their budget numbers for the remaining FY. So now, while Congress feels it necessary to take 2 weeks off (because they worked so hard at destroying the country?) everyone else is working or soon to be furloughed. Talk about a distorted mirror that these Pee Pees look in to each day.

Do you include Senate in that? What about White House? Our FedEmp friends control 2/3 of govt and they can't keep us working? That's not even going to lack of COLAs etc. Why can't we cut the $480 million to Planned Parenthood or Billions in corporate welfare or foreign aid? If this bluster in North Korea is just bluster, then why not save billions by leaving Korea? How many Billions could we save by pulling troops from Europe. This is a manufactured crisis and the people you blame are just 1/3 of the pie! If you don't blame them all you're missing the point here. Just imagine the cry if Bush was doing this!

  • Blame the GOP
    Moderate
We blame the Republican House because the GOP is the party that forced the spending cuts that gave us sequestration. As far as korea is concerned, it is bluster because they North Koreans will not do much while the US is there. If the US leaves, they will invade per their bluster and actions. You are right on corporate welfare and Europe (I believe) Planned parenthood saves money by providing women's health care and reporductive solutions, including safe abortions. of course, you might want more kids for the poor and more welfare (or crime that will force more prison building. That will increase the deficit. this is not a manufactured crisis and yes, I blame the GOP.

  • "at least June"?
    5555624
"A State Department memo obtained by The Washington Post indicated that furloughs wouldn't begin until the third quarter of this fiscal year. That means they wouldn't happen until at least June." I thought that the third quarter of the fiscal year started 1 April? Why is this year different? June is the beginning of the third quarter of the calendar year.

  • 3rd quarter
    Linda
5555, the fiscal year for the Government starts Oct 1st. 1st quarter ends December, 2nd quarter ends March, and the third quarter does start April, but they said after the third quarter, which would be June, the start of the fourth quarter. ....................................................... ..as for Colburn, the very few people who are government employees and have nothing to do, are there for a reason, called a lawsuit if fired,, or other reasons the government does't want out. I have seen people fired, some after 25 years, they just call it early retirement.

While Federal Workers have been subjected to a 3 year pay freeze and reduction in Federal Workers injury compensation benefits ___Congress is spending over $100 billion per year, every year on foreign military bases to protect foreigners in countries such as Japan, Germany, South Korea, Italy, Spain at USA taxpayers expeense. All the cuts are at home inside the USA __while no spending cuts are cuts are made in Japan, Germandy, S. Korea etc. In fact we are now spending more on protecting S. Korea ___while we make spending cuts at home that effect American citizens.

The US is the second strongest trading nation. Many of the bases are to ensure freedom of trade lanes. Cut those and watch others jump in, eventually to deny access. Then, we'll be a lot poorer.

You might be right on this one. I do not know. Contrarian, I do not know whether the decreased trade will or won't happen, but it has nothing to do with the job losses.

After reading the great commentary and responses here it made me wonder if Congress in itself commited an act of treason by this thing called sequestration. Both parties have put their STUPID agendas above country. Seems they have shredded the Constitution and have brought havoc on their own constituients. Just a thought.

Until Pres Obama gets ownership of the economy and budget nothing will improve. Right now it's like the printing presses running forever and blaming Bush. Pretty cool huh?

Blaming Bush is correct. He and his cronies gave us the Bush and the Republicans Depression. We must recover from that by increasing the deficit. It is a shame that Bush did not run surpluses while we were in relative prosperity instead of giving corporate welfare and starting wars. So now obama must do extra spending so we can recover from the depression. It might actually be working.

This is a trillion in spending cuts over 10 years. FY2014 has another 100+ billion in cuts required.

All Congress has to do is a Continuing Resolution into FY14. Since it already cut $85B in FY13 over 6 months, a CR would cut $170B over a whole year. Some agencies might even get a budget increase.
