Has anyone heard what is going to happen to husbands and wives who work for the same agency? That is going to be four lost days of pay per pay period for these families. Is anyone concerned?

  • Yes

Yes we are concerned, I work for DoD and my wife works for the Army. We are very concerned as our oldest will be starting collage in the fall and with the lost of pay it will eat into our savings even more. As the no pay raise has already done. We are looking into pulling out money from our TSP to help with making payments and paying for collage but in doing this it will mean even a smaller paycheck to pay back what we pull out.

  • Sure they thought about it

They thought about it and they don't care. Both parties in Congress, Obama, and the Pentagon have one thing in common: They love contractors and hate Feds. That's why contractors aren't being furloughed and GS employees are being forced to absorb all of the pain. when you are home every Friday collecting aluminum cans to make ends meet, the already overpaid contractors will be raiding the henhouse.

  • A question

So the total of the sequester cuts are said to be between 2% and 5% depending on who is talking. How does that equate to a 20% pay reduction to employee's??? I'm having a hard time understanding the math.

  • percentage...

First the 2-5% is based on the total US Federal Budget. About 63-64% of the budget is not being cut, SSI, interest payments etc... The only piece being cut is the discretionary spending. Also the cuts must be across the broad. As for DoD cuts to payroll they must come out of what is left in the budget year since 6 months of the budget year has already been spent. So 8% across the broad for the year has to come from a little more than five months. 8% is DoD mandated cut. In order to do that DoD says it must furlough workers 22 days.

  • Furlough's

Congress and Obama do not care about the federal employees! They are not suffering a loss of pay. They will not miss a dime of pay and they created this mess! We need to remember this in 2014. No incumbant should be reelected. It is supposed to be "We the People"! The cuts are a 20% pay cut from April 21 to Sept 21. I have never seen the federal employees attacked this way since I've worked for the AF. That's what you get when you elect people who don't have a clue what they are doing. Just glad I'm very close to retirement. Signed Disgusted in GA

  • Please Consider the Big Picture

I am a civilian employee and will be furloughed. No whining here though. I've lived below my means for decades and am able to absorb the income loss with no real discomfort. If *everybody* would make a point of insisting their representatives in Congress were paid a salary commensurate with the median income of their constituents, A LOT of our problems & disagreements would disappear. With that arrangement, our elected officials would actually be working to make the citizenry successful in areas that matter: education, meaningful/productive job skills, and health care to name a few. Oh, the census and voter registration rolls would need to provide a basis for determining the median income for a district. This alone would quiet many regarding voter fraud and the notion that elected officials build their voter base through welfare. We need to stop fighting amongst ourselves (civilians v contractors, liberals v conservatives, etc.) and focus on the clowns in DC that are lining their pockets with our hard-earned money. God Bless America! Let's make it great again!

  • Big Picture?
    Mikulskiisuselss
Don't be a fool. This is the big picture. DOD is waging cruel and costly psychological warfare against its civilian workforce. And even before the first actual furlough day, the casualties are too many to count. If this had ANYTHING to do with reduced budgets, DOD would be actively cutting back on its bloated contractor workforce full of retired officers. But it is not. Instead, the contractors have bee shielded form even any hint of furlough while the civilians are told to keep morale up while they can't sleep. Shameless.
