  • This bill is useless
    wisenekt
unless it gives the agencies the power to drop Congressional "pet projects" that are a drain on this country. Until that happens, it will always be feds first to take the hit.

    Honest Broker
I had those pet projects crammed down on my shop, so I empathize with Wisenekt. Wish the vote for spending had to be by the public at a line item level, so the most votes gets funded until funds run out. That is a budget and democratic, but your politicians and their cronies just cannot make money that way. I think we need a recall election across the board instead of the piece meal system where only a third or fourth of them are up for re-election. When I was hired by the Govt and they said public servant, they were not kidding.

  • WOW - A Republican Stands Up for the Workers: Where Were the Democrats?
    Radar Tech
First, this is fantastic news. I hope it passes the House by a mile. Then we will see what the Senate and President will do. I note with interest that the representative putting this bill forward has a big "R" behind his name and that he is from Texas. So, where are the Democrats on this? Will they continue to harm the federal workers? We have had a Democrat president that gave us a 2 year 3 month pay freeze by executive order and who is the one that came up with and then forced the sequestration. So where are the supposed friends of the working class with the "D" behind their names? Will they fight this new "R" bill that protects workers from furloughs?

  • The Same Place

The dems were in the same place they were when Rand Paul was standing (mostly) by himself in defiance against tyranny, cowering in the corner as usual. Just like they did when the big O signed an Exec. Order to bomb Libya (and now we have FOUR MORE WARS, and a new DRONE base in Niger! yay, team!). Wake up, buddy, it ain't about the political party anymore. Its about the rich, globalist elites who already control this country.

Did you finish reading the document to see how many bills he voted against for federal workers. You've got your facts wrong--the President did not cause the sequestration by himself. This was a 2-way agreement between the President and GOP in 2011, and the GOP re-nig when the time came.

This bill only makes things worse. Poor Blake Farenthold, he knows how to drag defeat out of the jaws of victory. Blake, USE this little victory to get the big O to FINALLY agree to entitlement reform. THAT was the goal here, not saving a few jobs in your district back in Texas (and that envelope of cash you get each month from Lockheed Martin).

  • Hey
    DCAV8R
Fine, do entitlement reform, just don't hold the 2.1 million middle class tax paying federal workers hostage while doing it. Unless of course you are willing to take 22 days unpaid to help contribute to deficit reduction. You do realize that when 2.1 million middle class tax payers reduce their household spending, it means they wont be going on vacations, wont be going to restaurants- so those folks suffer, will only buy what they need at the grocery store--- so those folks suffer, wont be buying a new car-- so those people will suffer...... See how trickle down economics works?

  • More conservative blather
    FERS Fed
The president has always been open to entitlement reform. Want proof? See the "Spending Savings from Superlative CPI with protections for vulnerable" line item in his latest offer to the Republicans http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/docs/deficit_reduction_table_bucketed_r8.pdf. ..... What the president opposes is Republicans' plans to balance the federal budget on the backs of seniors, the poor, and the disadvantaged. ..... Congressman Farenthold’s district (Texas 27th) is home to Army Depot Corpus Christi and Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, more than a "few jobs in your district back in Texas". His and adjacent congressional districts (14th, 15th) are estimated to lose more than $110M in defense spending alone from the effects of sequestration. Source: Defense Breakdown Economic Impact Congressional District Report, www.forthecommondefense.org. ..... Note that Lockheed Martin is NOT among the companies doing defense business in Congressman Farenthold’s district. ..... Apparently the only 'idjit' here would be you.

  • And the president has always been against the federal workers
    Radar Tech
After all, Obama gave us a 2 year 3 month pay freeze by executive order before he came up with the idea of sequestration and demanded that it be put into law or he would veto any bill without it. He has no problem with freezing our pay and then handing out a 20% pay cut afterwards. He talks about "shared pain" while he feels none of the pain...while he shielded contractors from the pain...while he gave amnesty to illegal migrants at our expense...while he gave away cell phones to welfare folk at our expense...while he gave away hundreds of millions of dollars to Syria and Egypt!!!

...feds would have been better off under a Mitt Romney administration?

  • Romney would have controlled spending -- Really?
    Honest Broker
Obama was just the lesser of two evils. Romney would have just looked out for his buddies and made the problem worse. Obama is just not making it better with support of illegals, filling our colleges with foreign students, welfare without a work ethic, and courting insurance companies. The politicians all know that all the wealth is in America's top 1 percent and Romney is in that club, while Obama is still working on it. Since its a 2 party system, we cannot get anyone that is not in it to get rich. The wealth distribution in the US is scary, check it out -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAVdSnnlilg --

I am saying that the country and the Feds would be a lot better off under a Romney administration! Anyone with a brain could figure that out. Unfortunately, a lot of people are lacking in that are when it comes to voting! We live in a give me society fueled by Obama's policies! Obama has done nothing for the federal employee! This is the worst part of my 32 year career with the USAF!

Right after you say "We live in a give me society," you complain Obama has done nothing for feds. Lead by example much? And you might want to edit your post as you let one sentence go without an exclamation point.

  • "This is the worst part of my 32 year career with the USAF!"?
    FERS Fed
So retire already, Eagle1. Surely you'll be able to waltz right into private sector job commensurate with your 32 years experience and salary history. Plenty of jobs like that available, right? ..... Or are you concerned that all you would find would be P/T work at one of the companies Mitt Romney 'saved' like Staples? ..... With respect to "Anyone with a brain could figure that out", there's a reason that conservatives are so adamantly opposed to any federal role in education in this country. And that's because anyone with a lick of education quickly learns to see right conservatives' half-truths, misinfornation, and outright lies.

@FersFed, So I guess you think Obama doesn't lie? And to Bluesky, I guess A COLA is a handout? Personally, I tell it like it is. This HAS been the worst part of my career. Three years without a COLA, price of gas has doubled, groceries have increased 30%. Insurenace rates steadily going up! Oh, that's right, it's Bush's fault. Right now, the Federal worker doesn't have a friend in Congress or the White House. And you want to talk about misinformation and out right lies! Give me a break. The Obama administration is NOT the most transparent. And for your information, I will retire when I get ready. Keep drinking the koolaide.
