  • Tired of hearing about it!
    Maryland Mom
Maybe because I'm a mom of 4 I'm just tired in general, but I am sooooo tired of hearing about it. The first thought that came to mind this morning was the oh so whiney "Bad luck" song from Hee Haw (Yes, I am dating myself). In case you need a reminder: Gloom, despair, and agony on me. Deep, dark depression. Excessive misery. If it weren't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all..." Bad news is better than good news for all the pessimists.

  • It'll happen and it'll hurt
It makes me furious to hear these millionaire politicians posturing in Congress over how they are saving money by making the Feds their personal punching bags yet again. It never occurs to them that they are talking about a LARGE number of their own constituents from whom a 20% pay cut will mean a huge hit, possibly enough to take them from solvent to insolvent. I have a young man working for me who just bought a house. He can afford it on his full salary, but not on 80% of it; he asked very seriously if he would lose his security clearance if he became delinquent on his house. Sadly, it is a possibility. If he loses his clearance, he loses his job. This nonsense about "overpaid Feds" is just that; and the idea that we can all absorb a 20% pay cut is just ridiculous. Congress making a show of not giving themselves a raise is an empty gesture. Most of them aren't living on their paltry government salaries to begin with. You don't get elected to Congress without a sizable purse.

  • Furlough
If the furloughs do go into effect we will quickly learn which jobs are necessary.
