Without a doubt this plan of borrow and spend is failed. The only question is how long until everything comes crashing down. It appears the borrow and spenders think this will be longer than the gold bugs. Are there no limits to anything anymore? Meanwhile they take our lightbulbs away. Everybody got plenty of 100 watt bulbs?

    Rob
How can you say on the one hand (like Obama did in 2008) that "it's irresponsible" and "unpatriotic" to saddle future generations with such a larger national debt then come out last night and push the idea of more deficit spending? It's really astounding that this guy gets away with this junk.

  • Try listening to the guy
    StarTrek1701
He was talking about fixing the government; getting rid of tax loopholes, stopping waste, and discretionary spending. The revenue we need comes from fixing those problems. Speaking as a "traditional" registered Republican, it is the Congress that is broke. Get rid of the Tea Partiers and maybe things can get done.

If we get rid of the Tea Partiers there will be no one left to stop -- or slow down -- the borrow and spend ideas. They may not be loved but they are necessary.

  • i do listen and actually remember what POTUS says - maybe you should
    Rob
Let me get this straight, it's "irresponsible" and "unpatriotic" for Bush to increase the national debt, but "the right thing to do" for Obama? Do you see anything wrong with that? Remember Obama's words in 2008, "the problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last 8 years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt so that we now have $9 trillion in debt that we're going to have to pay back. That's irresponsible, that's unpatriotic." ......So Obama has doubled the debt Bush added in half the time and suddenly it's ok to take out that credit card from the Bank of China. What a freakin hypocrite.

  • If anyone thinks the furlough will end 30 Sept
    wisenekt
they need to wake up. 2014 will start under a CR (as always) and the furlough will continue. Someone will like the cost savings and suggest that it continue for all of 2014 as federal employees need to do more to "pay down the debt". Then someone in Congress will get any cost savings, and more, directed to their district for some money losing project or some donor payoff reward. Rinse and repeat.

  • Wake Up
    jst
You are correct! I would say that the furlough status will be with us until early January 2015. If this does not happen, I would venture that Congress will look for a way to keep everyone at work everyday but an unvoluntary pay reduction will be in the works. They are going to get so use to have the extra money to pay down debt that they are never going to let it go back to the same ways. The latter is probably what is going to happen. It is kind of like building toll roads. Politicans always tell us that the toll is only a temporary thing, but when they get a taste of the money they generate, they never shut them down. So we are faced with a couple of possible things: 1. Reduction in Force (going to happen) 2. Reduction in pay/lower paygrades (congressional action) 3. Furlough days through calendar year 2014. 4. Zero pay raises for 3 more years. This includes paygrades and within step frozen for 3-5 years. We are going to get hammered as government employees. So fasten your setbelt it only gets bumpier as we move forward.

  • Gee, I guess the congressman can climb up on the radar tower...
    Radar Tech
Yesterday, I was on top of an air traffic control tower replacing a failed encoder (the thing that tells the radar antenna which direction it is facing). It is February in the northeast and very cold and windy. The part they sent was bad, so they are rushing us another part and I will install it today - in the dark, in the wind, and in the cold. If this sort of thing continues, the congressman can try to fix the radar himself before catching his flight to DC, because folks like me can either find work elsewhere or take our turn at the 99 weeks of free money we paid for everyone else. By the way, it takes about 3 years to train an experienced electronics technician to be a certified watch stander on our equipment, so they can enjoy the waits and delays and cancellations for a long long time while they try to get other people trained to fill in our spots.

  • Comparing asteroids to politics
    Hefeweizen
Near-earth asteroid 2012 DA14 will miss us by a slim margin compared to other such asteroids which whiz through near-earth space about every 8 hours on average. This is comparable to the idea that the freight truck on I-495 coming at us from the other direction is close to causing a head-on collision but we don't worry about this because we know that the truck is on a controlled and predictable path. On the other hand, the unpredictability of politicians which may result in the implementation of draconian cuts to programs and furloughs for federal workers is like the work of locusts in a corn field. They are mindless consumers interested only in what is good for themselves and no one else. They can and will lay waste to everything in their path without regard to the ultimate consequences.

    deployed decoy
Well USDA Snow Survey still uses meteor burst radio systems to relay snow water content from across the western USA. Think of the loss to productivity when every hydro dam in the USA needs to open all the drainage gates. Because no one is forecasting run off, rain or river flow. Well who needs power when the town is under water anyway. This planet is beat every day by millions of little tiny space stuff. This ionizes in the E layer and makes radio relay propagation path in the sky. That bit of science aside. Im hoping 2012 DA14 slams into a couple DoD communications satellites 22,600 miles out. Those things, now space junk. burn through the E layer and slam directly into a sitting congress... That will do two things. Whatever god they say they believe, does not like them and the debt was just liquidated.
