    deployed decoy
Or not. In Kuwait a couple years ago this thing came up. Heck, it comes up more years than Christmas. That aside. Some stuck on stupid fool for Army Central Command and/or NETCOM (us peons were never told where it came from). Declared all us Emergency Essential were no longer emergency or essential. That, if the budget was not passed over the weekend, we were told not to report for duty Monday. Apparently, we had all been changed to Mission Critical. And, well, only the network manager (the rest contractors in the communications center) and the COR were critical. The rest of us would be placed on LWOP, the contractors having been funded with some other color of money were coming to work. I raised my hand and asked what the non-combatant evacuation operation would include. Since under federal law we would need evacuated from the fight. Not a sole answered. They passed something that weekend. So none of this mattered. But Mike, good darn question. If a person is not on pay status. They cannot be in a war zone, Antarctica, on a hurricane blizzard in Boston, sure not in a hotel room on a 2 week mission away from the primary duty station on the 2nd Tuesday. Nothing. Well unless they are changed to Emergency Essential on SF50 BEFORE the event. This status is also something that any fed could dispute. Since the agency must ask for volunteers before changing a persons status unwillingly. Hey, I think I just discovered the problem in congress. None of them are essential, or they would come to work in a snowstorm in DC.

Just Do It! Either furlough us now and get it over with, or pass whatever law needed to keep us working. Not another extension. I feel like a 13 year old at my first school dance: "Is he going to ask me to dance or not?" I hear the Lee Ann Womack song in my head, "I hope you Dance...". Then I start thinking that if I get furloughed one day a week, (one day a pay period, whatever), that I'll have plenty of time to dance. Of course I'll need to skip eating out, get rid of the expensive cell phone, switch to basic cable and save gas for the one day less a week commute. I wonder what that will do for the economy?

I'll take the extension. Then maybe the furloughs will not happen. Or, if they do, we'll collect. Or, if late enough, and my pension is affected, I'll retire and get another job.

    Linda
It was refreshing to hear, was it Defense?, talk about how cutting the pay if Federal Employees, contractors etc. by 20% would do to the economy. Amazing the financial media types didn't pick up on that other than to run the sound clips. They just said "i doubt it will effect it much." Have they run the numbers? I doubt that.

  • Smoke and mirrors and the smoke is NOT from tobacco
    deployed decoy
Congress and the national press apparently has been hanging out in the Seattle downtown. You know ever since weed was de-criminalized last month, its just a haze over town. Either that or they need to blame the CIA for conducting experiments on their mothers with mind altering drugs when she was carrying them in her womb. As I have noted many times in the past. They could shut down the entire federal Govt – all of it. Stop all social programs like welfare and social security. It would still take 100s of years to dent the debt. The numbers are really quite simple in human terms. At $1000 per second, about $32 Billion a year (no new debt or interest), it still takes 54,000 years to pay off the current debt. Those fools are talking about saving that much over the next 10 years or so. So we are back at to a half million years to pay it off. Now printing $10,000 bills to replace the $1, still takes over 50 years. Some fool suggested the federal reserve have the US Mint make a single gold or platinum coin. Face value $1 Trillion. Then hand that to the fed to print more paper… So assuming the USA had anything close to enough gold to back this coin up, it would weigh 37 billion pounds (at $1700 per OZ). My god I am so glad I retired and live in Washington where self medication is legal.

  • Effects Doubtful
    ben
Doubtful the taxes, not collected, and the pay, not spent will affect the economy much. Remember hundreds of billions spent on stimulus that did little. Japan tried stimulus spending on infrastructure running up a national debt about 233 percent of GDP. The Dems call for more infrastructure spending. The entire interstate system cost under $500 billion (constant dollars). The feds could have rebuilt the national infrastructure with the funds they wasted.

This is your comment. It is hardly provable because you have no clue as to what the stimulus spending prevented such as another Great Depression. "Remember hundreds of billions spent on stimulus that did little" Actually, unemployment is statistically down. Employment is gaining. Actually Ben, it takes time for economic policies to work. The economy does not turn on the dime.

Your work day is 0800 - 1630. When working for a particular moron who needed calibration, I've stopped mid-sentence at 1630, got up, and walked out. He learned. Wanted to send me TDY for a conference on Monday. Wanted me to go Sunday, but weren't gonna pay my meals for Sunday, nor give me comp time off for traveling on MY DAY OFF. Told 'em I'd go FRIDAY afternoon, stay on THEIR DIME over the weekend in TDY-land, and report for conference Monday AM. They said, "Well, we just won't let you go on this trip!" "FINE! I HATE TDY! Thank you!" I once lost money because the TDY rates were below what it cost to get a hotel. I told 'em I wouldn't EVER go TDY again where I would lose money. They then let me file a supplemental claim for recovery of out-of-pocket expenses. Problem solved. Travel overseas where you report w/in 8 hours of arrival in country merits BUSINESS CLASS. They wouldn't authorize it. I refused to go unless they either authorized Business class, or sent me in enough time to recover from the jet lag. I wouldn't travel on my day off. They tried quoting the rules; I quoted 'em right back. How much more does it cost to give business class VS paying for hotel, meals, etc over weekend in a hi-cost city? Muttonheads. As if it's outta THEIR pockets to follow the regs? Colonel said "You and I are going TDY to Norfolk. Rent a car, drive there, and meet me there." "Roger that!" Secretary: "You have to check with GSA, blah - blah." Stupid Major chimed in with "That's right!" Me to secretary: "OK. A round trip airplane ticket to Norfolk for me. Rental car in/about. What do you think about that?" Me to Major: " #1, when I want your opinion, Major, I'll kick it out of you, understand? #2, since when did you become such an expert on the JTR, of which I wrote several parts? #3, Last I looked, a Colonel outranks a Major. Why don't YOU go tell the Colonel he's WRONG in what he ordered me to do, hah?" Me to secretary: "Now, do what I told you to do, or you'll suffer the consequences." Knowing the regs can be so fun.....

Joe,I just read your 2 posts.I'm retired CSRS with 36 years.I didn't work in DOD but with a law enforcement agency.I spent many weekends travelling w/out comp time and also has many per diems where I lost money on rates.Your position is the poster child why non feds can't stand feds behavior.I just sucked it up and in the long run succeeded. If you worked for me Joe you'd get nothing,we'd follow the regs to a "T' when it came to your eval, awards, etc.I think you need an attitude adjustment.
