  • Are furlough's for real
    jwdespain3
Mike, OSD might be saying that furloughs are being hyped up, but Navy leadership has said fuloughs are coming to balance the books if sequestration hits, and the money folks are banking on that savings to pay the bills. SECDEF, current and former, always says that people are Defense's most important asset, guess they just didn't mean us current civilians worried about paying the mortgage with 20% less money.

  • Not just the Dems
    Linda
Don't just blame the Democrats for our current fiscal woes. Any time one party gas full controll the spending is out of control. Republicans also. ..........................I would love to see IRS shut down in the middle of filing season! Call the help line, sorry no one home! Refunds delayed, possible! Walk in assistance closed! In my office no one was considered essential with the last shut down scare. Hmm?

  • No, just the extra $1.4 trillion
    ben
Dems account for the extra $1.4 trillion annually since Obama.

  • Actually, that would be from....
    FERS Fed
....putting GWB's 'off-budget' wars back into the federal budget.

  • Do you review the facts before posting
    ben
GWOT budget amounted to $80 to $90 billion annually. State Department increase amounted to about $1 billion annually. VA budget may have increased about $10 billion of a $65 billion budget. GWOT contributed to both Bush and Obama deficits, no matter the budgets.

  • Facts -- Ben ignores them
    TCI
First, you have no idea what you are talking about. Go back and actually do some reading and then you will figure out why the deficit is so high (here's a hint -- the economy collapsed, stimulus package was passed, tax cuts were extended). Second, check your numbers on OCO spending (GWOT is outdated). We are way beyond $80-90 billion -- remember the surges in Iraq and Afghanistan?

  • Its In Your Court, Now!
    ben
Under rules of argumentation, I submitted facts concerning the amount of the wars under Bush, which you brought up. If, you have other costs, its your responsibility to specify them, not me.

  • "I submitted facts concerning the amount of the wars under Bush"?
    FERS Fed
Your "facts" don't seem to agree with what the Congressional Research Service came up with 2 years ago.

  • From Congressional Research Service Report RL33110
    FERS Fed
"With enactment of the sixth FY2011 Continuing Resolution through March 18, 2011, (H.J.Res. 48/P.L. 112-6) Congress has approved a total of $1.283 trillion for military operations, base security, reconstruction, foreign aid, embassy costs, and veterans’ health care for the three operations initiated since the 9/11 attacks: Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) Afghanistan and other counter terror operations; Operation Noble Eagle (ONE), providing enhanced security at military bases; and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)." ..... Note that this is a 2 year old report, so the numbers are even higher today. ..... For a more thorough assessment of the cost to the nation of GWB's 2 wars, go here -- http://costofwar.com.

  • Lasting Affects
    jst
Think about what the short term days off throughout the year is going to do. Not only will the economy suffer but, federal employees will reduce the amount of money going in to their Thrift Savings Plan accounts in order to offset some fo the loss in their take home pay. Regardless of the so called savings that the government will make on these days off, peoples debt continues on and in some cases may just get more complicated. I can see a meltdown comming if we are not careful.

We had the dot.com bubble, then the housing bubble. What next? Get ready for the government bubble. It can not be sustained.

  • I Hope You Are Right
    Fed1979
But I'm not so sure this time. Sentiment and priorities have changed. No real feeling for feds anymore, especially in Congress. I can't wait until I am no longer held hostage by an ineffective and mean spirited group. Tired of the threats and bullying. Calling it quits. 40 working days and counting...
