Maybe it's just me, but does anyone find it disturbing that POTUS seems to be more focused on making illegals legal than finding a way to avoid the massive furloughs and/or layoffs looming for many Americans? Despite Obama claiming sequestration will never happen (pre-election statement of course) he can hardly wait for the massive cuts in 30 days.

  • You forget, Fed employees are rich!
    Chuck@IRS
Very disturbed. I have no idea how we are supposed to overlook, and/or forgive years of illegal activities, trespassing, identity theft, as well as, tax evasion. If this is supposed to be one of those plans where we're supposed to be off with them in the 'system' than out of it, for tax purposes, I'd rather they start with taxing prostitution and/or legalizing marijuana. That would generate a larger revenue stream. But the biggest problem is the perception of Federal employees. They are now under attack from both sides, not only are they overpaid to the point where freezing salaries for three more years is going to somehow magically balance the federal budget. But also so rich that 22 days without pay so millions of illegal immigrants can apply for food stamps is not going to be problem.

    And we all certainly know Congress bears no responsibility in any of this. {Roll eyes}

  • Why would the 4th estate care?
    contrarian
Senate hasn't passed a budget in years, why are they still getting paychecks? DC is ground zero for people to do nothing to get paid. All they've done is successfully deflect the blame to the other chamber.

  • Budget
    Moderate
The only budgets your House Republican allies have passed are those that they know will go nowhere in the Senate. You know that is called garbage in, garbage out. The Senate will not waste time passing stuff the Republicans will not consider. So cut the propaganda.

  • Hmmmmm, Rob?
    FERS Fed
Republicans wanted sequestration in order to cut spending. Now, POTUS is giving it to them, and in your view that's a problem?

  • The Liberal Mind
    Rob
I don't think the GOP is too crazy about defense cuts, however considering Obama says we don't have a spending problem in this country I think they'll take what they can get in budget cuts....... The point I was making above is Obama seems to be more concerned about taking care of law breakers (illegal immigrants) than he is about Americans who will pay dearly under sequestration. COMPRENDE?

  • As near as I can, the only 'Americans who will pay dearly under sequestration'...
    FERS Fed
...will be feds. And as you so frequently point out, POTUS doesn't care about us. So what's the problem? ..... BTW the ONLY reason immigration reform is moving at all is because Republicans are trying to keep another slice of the electorate from abandoning them. If immigration reform truly was an Obama initiative, it would be DOA in both houses of Congress.

  • More nonsense from Rob

Your problem is that the Republicans will not work with the President to stop the furloughs. The Repubs want to cut spending for government workers. They are pushing the cuts and wage freezes, not the President.

Does anyone else remember when DC autumns used to begin in September? Now we get summer weather in October and some years into November.

  • Don't remember it?
    Linda
I lived 11 years in the Salt Lake City Area, and I remember the drivers being great in snow. Faster than some, but less accidents than many places with snow. Don't drive any different than the do in Montana. But..........fog? Get me out of there! They drive 80 when the visibility is the front of their bumper! And don't get me started on driving in the rain, they go a snails pace, I grew up I. Seattle, where trust me you learn to drive in the rain, and it drives me crazy........................................................As for the illegals, mandate E-verify and any employer caught with an illegal on the payroll, or under the table for that matter, pays $10,000 per. Start with the know big boys and move your way down to Jose Labor in the neighborhoods. The program will pay for itself. No jobs, the illegals will go elsewhere for jobs, maybe home, maybe Canada. And no services, other than school, if in the US. No Medicaid, no welfare, no license, no service. They will leave. At the same time, the emigration laws need to simplify, so the laborers we need can legally immigrate to pick vegetables in the fields, no one else wants to do. But, they will be legal workers paid at least minimum wages, no taken advantage of desperate people.

  • Illegals
    Moderate
You raise some good ideas about the illegals, but it might be wrong to do so. My first problem is that not every employer has a computer. (consider the very small employer)E verification would be unreasonable there. I assume you mean that everyone who is hired would be on this e verification list. Is that true? Also, are these computer lists always accurate? You know how the government works. You gave good ideas, but they may not be able to be implemented.
