  • I am tired of the claim that we need more acquisition people

    The reason is because of the complexity of the regulations and the high number of duplicative contracts. Simpolify acquisition. Use the simpler government wide contracts. That would save the "need" for a few thousand acquisition heads right there!

  • Workforce was "capped" years ago

    DoD, and especially the Dept. of the Navy, "capped" its skilled trades workforce ("blue collar" folks) many decades ago when they opted to pay wages that were considerably reduced in trades such as machinist, electrician, elex techs, patternmakers, and other mechanical/electrical trade skills. Same trade skills on the outside in private industry made as much as 50% higher wages on average... that was back in the 70's and 80's. Now, they are suffering, and cannot get enough skilled trades people. Additionally, promotions to production-facilitating positions such as planner, estimator, scheduler, progressman, etc. were "reserved" for favorite people. No wonder this stigma has plagued recruitment of skilled craftspeople into DoD industrial complexes over the past 20 years.
