  • I'd Pass on the Pay Raise
    Lisa Lisa
I am with one of your listeners in your piece today-forego the olive branch pay raise. At the end of the day-its really not worth the time and effort for the haggling that has to be done to get it. Not to mention, the endless name calling of federal workers by the GOP side(which FYI-I find hysterically hypocritical!) considering all of the plush benefits Congress gets for bringing the nation to its knees over and over.

  • Name Calling?
    Rob
What kinds of names have we been called by the GOP? Mean while, depite Obama in 2008 telling the American people he would not raise taxes on the middle class "ONE DIME" most Americans saw their taxes go up 2% this month. Could it be Obama is a liar?

  • 2% tax increase
    Vermin8
It's restoring the tax to its pre-stimulus level. It was never my impression that it was meant to be permanent. And the GOP does call federal workers names - overpaid and underworked is thrown out most frequently.

Don't you just love it when they get upset over the fact that US Government career workers make more money than the burger flippers at McDonald's? I would like to see how any of these Congressmen handle my job. I would bet few could.

Congress is considered federal workers so when they do their surveys, they see how lazy they are and assume they represent the population.

No. Obama is not a liar. As per above the 2% increase brings it back to previous levels for non CSRS people and others outside of the government subject to social security. Meanwhile your friens in the GOP and their allies want to freeze our pay for 5 years and raise our pension contributions by 5% over 5 years.

  • When complaining about not getting a cost of living raise...
    Vermin8
...I would omit the part regarding the offspring in private college. Seriously, those of us plain folk who went to public school don't want to hear you whine. In simpler easy to understand terms: if you're having trouble making ends meet send your child to an in-state public school or community college. I have noticed public university graduates understand math much better than private school attendees: ie, private school costs more therefore is more stress on the budget. Get it?

I have to agree with you Vermin on this one.. don't whine when your child is in private college.. Heck.. let them go to public and pay for it themself like I had to do.

but the GOOD state run schools discriminate against local taxpayers to get out of state higher tuition. Just because someone is a feral worker doesn't mean he has to accept inferior schooling for his children. Maybe some of you socialist dirtbags believe that, but normal people don't.

    Getting_FED_Up
Excuse me?? I am a federal worker and I put myself through college without the help of my parents and I went to a local college that I could afford. I am not a socialist. If the College student wants to continue going to a "private" college that parents really can't afford then that student should get a job and pay the difference.

Joe, I am a fed. I paid for 2 years of college and my parents paid for 2. They would have paid it all, but I refused. Where does his inferior schools come in? The regular state schools are just as good as the regular private colleges (exclude ivy league and near ivy league) Getting was suggesting a budget solution that makes sense.

    Getting_FED_Up
I don't know why anyone would be happy about the .5% raise when our SST just went up 2%. I can't afford to lose anymore money out of my check. Will lose even more next check with the Fed Withholding being changed, then here in PA we have a "privelage tax" of $52/year for being able to actually have a job in our own state.

  • Pay Raise
    Bud
I'm CSRS retired.During my 36 years(1967-2003),there were many years of no raises, some years with nominal raises, and some with generous raises.Reagan made us start paying the 1.45% Medicare, plus he recomputed the 2080hr year to 2087 costing a day of pay per year.Ronnie also eliminated the CSRS lump sum option at retirement. The FED employee coup de grace from Reagan was implementing FERS.Take this .5% pay raise, folks;hopefully you'll have some better raises as the 2016 election approaches.

    irs diva
When during the period from 1967-2003 were there years of no raises? What years? I am tired of people making things up without having any facts to back them up. That applies to Congress as well as Federal Employees.

Don't forget the 2% raise the following Reagan year. And do not forget that much or most was taken away by a huge medical insurance premium increase. Didn't we fall much further behind the private sector during the Reagan years? Clinton was not all that great for us either.
