It just slipped his mind. Of course he will grant it. Even if not, workers probably will use their 8 hours of absentee leave to go off immediately. Leaving contractors to be the only ones holding that time to drive up or call in sick or use leave two weeks in advance. The building is empty. Gives contractors eight hours to repair any damage to buildings without interference.

  • Weekend holiday

Mike says in the past we got time off when Christmas Eve was on a Friday, and in a previous columns he called Monday 12/26 a "bonus" holiday. Well, when Christmas (Dec 25) falls on Saturday or Sunday, then the Friday before or Monday after IS the holiday. It's not a "bonus" or extra time off, it is one of the 10 official holidays. Same is true for Veterans Day (Nov 11) and the 4th of July and has been for years.

it's about nothing. He doesn't actually provide any useful information or insight, just the usual "Tease" headline. Like the "Fed pensions to be cut"... then you read it, and it's actually only happening if you live on Jupiter's third moon.

Image is all important. Feds better go to work the day before Christmas. After all, it is a greater offense to have a bad paint job than it is to scrape away a nice paint job only to find there is nothing there.

You are not being fair as you are retired. Therefore, it does not affect you. Additionally, even if you were working for the government, you were in a higher level management. Those people work crazy hours. Therefore, you would probably (speculation) be working at home in order to get the work, that was assigned to you, done.----As for me, if I get the day off, then I will assign another day for use or lose. If I do not get the day off, I have plenty of use or lose. I would like the day off, but I am comfortable either way.----Enjoy the holiday season.

Here's a news flash for ya, dudette, retired federal employees pay income tax!! Consequently, since I'm paying YOUR salary, I in fact DO have an interest in whether or not the federal government shuts down for an extra day. And, I agree with the numerous posts that state how ridiculous it is that so many employees are whining about whether or not they'll have the extra day off. I guess they can't really whine about CSRS any more since there are so few CSRS people left,,,,so they'll whine about anything they can. And yet feds still wonder why they have such a bad rep!

Most Federal employees have already requested Monday off, so why the big deal. Most of us have scheduled it as part of our use or lose, so as a "RETIRED" Fed, you should be happy that we adhere to the leave requirements of our employer. As for you paying for MY salary, get over yourself, I'm sure your CSRS retirement does not even come close to paying for 1 FTE, and guess what - "we pay taxes too". Retired Federal employees remind me of ex-smokers, it's not an issues until you are no longer doing it. Have an awesome Christmas and New Year. (By the way, no one uses Dudette anymore)

It makes even more sense to give the extra bonus if most people are already taking the day off. Why you ask? Because do you really want to heat a building that holds 2,000-3,000 people when only about 20 or 25 people are in that day? Your taxes are going to pay that bill too. Multiply that times all the buildings all across the country, and that is one huge bill. Giving an extra day off isn't an actual cost, it's not a check that has to be written, but the utility bill is another story.

A bonus day off is an unplanned day of zero productivity. Although I agree it wouldn't be much different from any other 'work' day!

Were you that bad a worker? What did you do as a tax man? Please show some intelligence by not writing just taxes.

Hey nit wit. You have the intelligence of an amoeba. How about referring to me as moderate. Mod is okay, However, your stupididty is your failure to recognize that I am not a dudette even though I have advised you of that fact. I guess amoebas cannot read.---Anyway, if you are a retired fed, then you know that my taxes pay for much of your retirement. So, your comment that your taxes pay for my salary is not relevant. You have no interest in whether the government shuts down on December 24 as you appear not to be working for the fed any more.----I could care less about whether you agree with the alleged "numerous" posts. The issue is whether to give the day off or not based on many factors such as the costs to open, employee moral, and whether the workers will spend more money and thus help the economy.-----Finally, as I have stated before, I am in the CSRS plan. I also agree with the FERS people who write that their plan is not as good as the CSRS plan. I also supported the plan to give sick leave credit to retirement for FERS people. So stop your barking and howling and go back to work.
