  • USDA Punishes Employees Who Expose Discrimination and Retaliation

    According to the Coalition of Minority of Employees, Secretary Thomas Vilsack has been ineffective at resolving retaliation/ discrimination issues facing the agency. Last year employees held a 3-day “filibuster for justice” to bring attention to the agency’s lack of response in dealing with employee issues. According to employees, the agency has failed to address issues presented. For example, rather than address the offender(s), the agency has a practice of attacking the victim. In the case of Alicia Dabney, a Native American who exposed harassment in the U.S. Forest Service, the agency fired her rather than address the ill-culture which jeopardizes the safety of the public. Prior to being terminated, Ms. Dabney served as a firefighter.
