  • Do we want Ninjas or Samurai?
    Mattius Cressius Maximus
Ninjas? Ninja were feudal-era Japan covert mercenary who specialized in espionage, sabotage, infiltration, and assassination. DHS needs cyber ninjas to assinate whom and sabotage what? Who is reccomending that DHS engage in cyber espionage, sabotage, infiltration, and assassination? Do they understand the difference between Title 10 and Title 50? I see Lockheed and a bunch of contract firms on the board that wrote that ... I guess they are modern-day mercenaries. Or ... Perhaps he meant to say cyber samurai instead?

  • DHS Cyber Ninjas
    Kinsman
Several firms and congressional interests will be interested and waiting to see the required economic studies necessary to justify the hiring of 600 Federal employees to do cyber security analysis. An in-house task force recommended hiring more Federal employees? This is clearly commercial contractible work. Now is not the time to be taking even more work out of the private sector and placing more pressure on existing Federal employees to retain their jobs under expected budget freezes, furloughs and RIFs.

  • Huh??
    Big Joe
I'm currently working in this field, yet just completed a desk audit at TSA and got downgraded. I just got a conditional offer from another Agency outside of DHS that pays more and has confirmed that my job is safe in view of the sequestration, etc. At the same time, I've been approached by a contractor who just offered me $53k more than what I am currently making......... Just trying to figure out why DHS would hire more people when they are not using those of us they have already working for them and why would any sane person work for the Fed when the contractors make so much more and seem to have the same stability as the Govt folks....

  • "First, DHS should help create a two-year community-college cyber program."

"First, DHS should help create a two-year community-college cyber program." They already did that, back in 2004, then DHS Secretary Tom Ridge pushed for the funding. It was called "Survivability and Information Assurance" and was created out of a joint program between Carnegie Mellon and the Community College of Allegheny County. One of the best class series I ever participated in. (I wrote course content for it) The really awesome thing is that all of the course materials are still available: http://www.cert.org/sia/
