  • It's really quite that simple

I think the debate clearly showed the differences between the two parties. Both parties believe in equal opportunity for all, but the Dems believe it's the responsibility of government to ensure equal results for all.

  • Simple enough

Both parties believe in getting elected. But the GOP candidate arrived vastly better prepared for this debate!

really not a debate in the truthest sense of the word but lets call it a 'debate". Both the President and Mr. Romeny as always refused to actually dicuss the six topics that were outlined by the moderator. Both parties lied thru there teeth and spun their own particular ideaolgoies..it was bascially a farce. On first blush, you get the impression if you can declare a winner to these, "events", that Romeny seemed much better prepared, reasoned in describing his views and presented those views in a simplistic orderly fashion...1, 2, 3, 4, etc. Almost taking the same approach Clinton did at the Democratic convention. The President seemed uneven, somewhat disjointed and lacked clarity of vision and explanation. Romeny was basically manipulating by bullying the moderator and always seemed to demand to have the last word. I found his manner and demeanor offensive. Obama however, in many instances allowed this conduct to go on unchallenged. But in the final analysis, Romeny did nothing more than package his views, which IMO would be disasterous for the nation if implemented, in new wrappings. The President simply failed to take Romeny to task. I was shocking how he allowed Romeny to dominate the entire stage. The fact is Romeny did what he always does, broad generalities, lacking the truth. For example, his tax plan, lower rates for everyone by 20%, top down. This is simply the same failed strategy of Republicans of the past leaning on trickle down economics. It didnt work in the past, it only enriched the rich and made the poor poorer. Lets take a look what he actually said, reduce tax's by 20% for everyone. Sounds good but its a gross distortion of what would actually happen. Yes, everyone gets a tax break but the rich gain significanlty more because 20% of 250K is 50K, you can still get by on 200K but take 20% from a family making 50K a 10K hit has much more adverse impact. It simply makes the rich richer and the poor, poorer. Now how does he pay for this transfer of wealth, he ends tax deductions and loop holes. The fact is the loss of these deductions hurts the poor substantially more than the rich. And finally, there arent enough loop holes or deductions that you can end to cover the 20% tax cut. But to understand that, you have to have something more than a HS education...the fact is Romeny disorted the truth and simply repackaged what he has been saying all along. Its a sad day in our history when we have a man like Romeny running for the Presidency and even sadder that the President we have, did not have the courage to confront this man and call him out for what he is...a Wall Street insider who would turn the keys of the economy back over to the very same people who acted without concern to destory our country and our economy.

  • it wasn't bullying at all

What you witnessed last night from Obama was the result of 4 years of coddling by the mainstream media. For 4 years this guy hasn't been asked any tough questions by anyone in the mainstream media. Al Qaeda just murdered a US Ambassador, which even the White House has now admitted was a planned attack, (not spontaneous as they wanted you to believe) and what questions has he been asked? NONE ZERO.....I really enjoyed last night. It wasn't bullying at all. It was a man who was elected POTUS without a shred of executive experience and it was exploited last night.

  • It certainly was bullying and reprehensible....

what we saw last night was nothing more than pure lies. OK, fine. But the real issue is what he plans to do if he gets elected. He is a man of extreme privilge. Hes domonstrated numerous time where his loyalties lie. Protect the rich, enrich the rich and his disdain for the poor the struggling middle class could not be more clear. The President was actually correct when he called out Mr Romeny about the $5T in tax cuts that mostly enrich the rich can not be paid for by simply removing loop holes which simply can not produce enough revenue to cover is transfer of wealth. I dont see you debating that point in your reply. His own words speak to his disdain for the poor and those whose very exisitence depend on SS and Medicare. Those retired servicemen and woman who benefit on the meager sums they recieve for their service. Finally, Mr Romeny's plan to reduce the deficiet rests solely on the idea that trickle down will improve the unemployment rate which is clearly not feasible. Not even rational. The fact is unless he can generate tens of millions of jobs, have those jobs generate higer rates of income, his plans fails. There is absolutely nothing he is proposing that will address unemployment in an environment of an interconnected world economy where China's rate of growth is declining and Europe is deep within a growing contientantly recession. So before he makes those cuts to the income tax structure he has to address the issue of unemployment otherwise you get the cuts that will cost the US trillions of dollars and when employment does not come around the cuts are in place but the revenue he hopes to generate thru adding millions and millions of jobs fails his whole scheme fails..only by then its to late because the cuts are in place. This man is dangerous beyond words and if he is elected, you will see a further collapse of what little remains of the middle class and a stratification of the socio economic strata into the rich and the poor. He is truly the one who is promoting class warfare. And that is tragic for our country.
