Mr. Lambert's concerns about the global supply chain that "feeds" the defense department are spot on. There are many execs in DoD that still don't understand how dependent the Department has become on commercial suppliers that are part of a global and untrustworthy (at least as yet unverified as trustworthy) supply chain. Not only is there little awareness of the magnitude of the problem, there is a limited understanding of why the private sector, commercial suppliers aren't motivated to solve this problem. In this post, http://www.commercebasix.com/wordpress/?p=892, I reference this article and Mr. Lambert's concerns and explain why this problem is so difficult to solve and what must be done to get businesses in the commercial supply chain to focus on addressing his concerns.
