  • Retirement questions
Back in February, 2012, I sent an email to OPM with retirement questions to determine how much an ex-spouse will received when I retire, along with questions about whether or not the divorce decree required survivor benefits, which could further reduce my monthly annuity. OPM sent a quick email response advising me to send my info to the OPM Court Ordered Unit in Bensalem, PA. Trying to be pro-active, on March 2, 2012 I sent my info and a cover letter with my questions to that address. My letter noted that I needed these questions answered so I could make an educated decision on retiring. After 4 months, NO RESPONSE from OPM. In July, 2012, I sent the information to OPM via certified mail. Still no response. If it takes OPM this long to answer some questions, imagine the mess it will create once I do retire and OPM belatedly tries to figure out who's on first, what's on second, and I don't know is on third.
