  • Health Premium Surprise
    Reinaldo Luis A.
Correct me if I have misunderstood the article but reading between the lines the Administration is manipulating the accounts so that the premiums will not be as high as they could be. OPM (which is not as independent of White House pressure as the old Civil Service Commission was)is now openly working to have the President re-elected by throwing a few crumbs to current and retired civil servants after he has extended the pay freeze even beyond the original two years.

    Rob
With all the problems facing this country it's pretty sad if folks decide which way to vote based FEHBP premiums. I guess there are a lot of small-minded people out there.

  • Effect of Insurance Premiums
    Moderate
Actually it is shallow for Luis to make the shallow comment against Obama. But, I agree with rob that it would be stupid to vote for or against Obama based on health insurance. he has little control over premiums and medical inflation. As far as raises are concerned, thank the Republicans. Although Obama recommended an insignificant raise, the Republican House refused to go along with it or increase the raise. Enough said on Republican actions Rob?

  • Hate to Argue
    Linda
Moderate, I hate argue with you, but Obama will, if not this year, then in the future contribute to higher insurance premiums. As soon as people can sign up and get their pre-existing conditions paid for, the rest of us will pay more. Why pay for insurance, when the penalty is cheaper, when you can wait until you are sick, then get insurance. Of course this doesn't help you if you are too sick to buy the insurance, or unconsious due to a car accident that maxes out. But, a lot of people do not think of those things.

  • Censorship/Obamacare v Our Premiums
    Moderate
First Linda, please do not be afraid to argue with me. I am just like everyone else on the board. No one is perfect. I and everyone else here make plenty of mistakes. So enjoy yourself (That is the purpose of this board) and write what you think. That is what I do. I also try to discourage censorship on this board by contacting Mr. Causey if I see it. This is true whether the right or left is censored. I have proven that. And also, you are a very good writer.----I am not sure if premiums for us will go up because of Obamacare. They are supposed to charge premiums for a group based on the experience of the group. Those helped by Obamacare are not part of our group. Therefore, Obamacare should not affect our premiums. There may be a factor I do not know about.

  • Health Premium Surprise
    1NumberCruncher
My surprise will likely be the same as it was last year...a nearly 17% increase! My premium has gone up 80% from 2009 to 2012. I have MHBP Value Option. For the first time in probably a decade I had an emergency room visit this year and my copay for a 90 minute visit (after a 6 hour wait of course) was nearly $2000! MHPB paid out about $8000. Boy do I feel lucky that I have "good" insurance. Until the cost of health care is brought under control the idea that Obamacare will be the saviour of the uninsured is ridiculous. I doubt if very many uninsured could afford to pay this outrageous sum after paying their insurance premiums.

  • Dem Convention fantasies
    contrarian
Fluke started with a bizarre alternate reality that was pure straw man. Then Clinton spoke of Dem cooperation that never existed, much like the tooth fairy or Easter Bunny. Cooperation takes two sides and I'm afraid that last night cemented one side in digging in their heels. Remember "I won" and how health care passed? Both prime examples of Dem Cooperation and proof that fiction is stronger than fact in Dem Land. Sorry, last night was a bad night for the truth.

  • Jekyll & Hyde
    Rob
Bill Clinton and Barack Obama are complete opposites. Remember the words spoken by Clinton, "the era of big government is over" and "today, we are ending welfare as we know it." Do any of you folks out there honestly think Obama would ever say such things? Please, this guy is a radical left winger. He's left of Jimmy Carter for crying out loud. Clinton was a moderate or I should say he became a moderate after the GOP took the House in '94. At least he worked with Newt and the GOP to balance the budget and reform welfare. What does Obama do? He comes right out of the gate in 2009 with his "I won" junk. He then proceeds to undo the work requirement in Bill Clinton's welfare reform bill. This country is SOL if we get 4 more years of this non-sense.

  • Your fantasies are a joke

I was unaware of Obama's unravelling the work requirement. He tried to do something. The GOP brought it to the GAO. The GAO said this must go before Congress. End of story. This type of thing is very common in government. I make rulings in my field. The opposition has and will appeal my decisions if they think I am wrong. Appeals has overruled me. That does not make me unlawful. We government workers just do our jobs.-----As far as cooperation is concerned, how many time was the government shut down because of the Republicans v Clinton? The answer under Obama is zero so far. And Obama must deal with a much more radical right Republican party than Clinton had to deal with. I'll deal with Obama rather than the party that gave us the Bush Depression

I think you, Rob, and I agree that we disagree about national politics. However, I want to read what you wrote so I can decide whether to respond or not. I also learn from your comments. I have emailed mr. Causey to get these comments. I will give you my opinion as to whether they are abusive or not. I hope you will agree that I can be objective in that area based on my past comments.

Contrarian, you have got to be kidding. Obama tried every which way to get the Republicans involved in the writing of the Obamacare law. They refused. They tried to block this law every which way they could. They even tried to get that law overturned in the courts. So stop with the lack of cooperation. The Republicans want it their way or no way. Newspeak never took hold here so do not try to bring it up

  • holding down health care costs?
disgusted fed who hopes to hold out until retirement
While OPM doesn't mention it, they are keeping the insurance premium refunds mandated by PPACA. They said it was so they can hold costs down. As they take money from our accounts for certain carriers, surely they can likewise refund the premiums.

This doesn't take into account the extra dental and vision insurance that we practically MUST buy since the health plan doesn't cover those adequately. They might go up. Americans are sick of all this health insurance nonsense. We are not a first world country right now.
