You guys are complaining about lower health insurance premiums?!? COMPLAINING??? The premium refunds are required by the PPACA law, a.k.a. "Obamacare". The law that some folks have tried to repeal, as many of you have advocated. Are you planing on refusing the lower premiums in protest? Or are you going to be hypocrites? As far as OPM "keeping" the refunds, the letter I got said the refunds are going back to the agencies that paid for the health insurance and will be used to lower your premiums. So, the refund mandated by "Obamacare" is going to lower your health insurance premium. Sounds like a real refund to me. Do you guys want me to type that again, slower? Obamacare- will- benefit- you- directly- by- lowering- your- insurance-premiums. Have your heads exploded yet?

My costs have risen. My doctor has increased his fees and cut the number of patients he has. The increased costs give me more face time with him; not rushed to get to the next guy. |||||||||||||||||Many doctors have quit. It isn't worth the paperwork hassles they go thru, so they hang it up. ||||||||||||||| Who came up with this idea of "progressive" taxation? Higher taxes on higher incomes have a negative effect on productivity. Of course, the REALLY rich guys DON'T pay taxes, and the low income guys get freebies from the government = taxpayers = ME! ||||||||||||||||Bottom line is that neither of those gangs of narcissistic toads is taking care of MY interests. Peace on all of them!

Start with Bush and his depression. At least Obama is trying to get all of us out of it and not just the wealthy. Joe, more than likely your costs have gone up because your deductibles and copays have gone up. Your doctor, if he is a preferred provider, has his fees set by the insurance company. The company pays a certain amount and you pay the rest.----We have had progressive taxation for longer than I have been alive. Higher taxes on higher income is necessary because those people can afford it. Are you a high income taxpayer? That will not discourage them from working more. How do you know what the rich pay in taxes?

    Jerry A.
contrarian, I was pointing out the contradiction of complaining about not receiving a rebate while also objecting to receiving that same rebate via lower health insurance premiums. I was not stating or even implying that a rebate or anything else would buy my vote. You did. Are you suggesting that you think votes like yours can be bought, for example with tax cuts for job creators? . It is refreshing to see that a President's policies benefit U.S. citizens, not just special interests like lobbyists or CEOs.

I lowered the premiums to show my compassion on the hard-working, self-sacraficing federal worker.....errrr.....I mean it's Bush's fault that premiums were increasing so much.....ahhhhhh.....federal workers must share the sacrafice and give back some of the benefits they reaped from the former administration.....ohhhhhh.....Romney will double your premiums then fire you......and Congress won't give you a raise, I want to, but they won't pass a budget....weeeelllll......it's Bush's fault

  • Health premium "surprise"?
    Jeremiah
"Insurance industry sources say that OPM has 'strongly encouraged' health plans to hold down premiums. This can be done a variety of ways, including using financial reserves of the federal health program...." If indeed true, this represents nothing less than deliberate, blatant, and unconscionable meddling with the fundamental fiscal health of the FEHBP solely for the short-term purpose of supporting the President's re-election campaign. This is, to put it bluntly, corruption in its most cynical form. If anything more was needed to illustrate the moral bankruptcy of the current administration, I'd be glad to hear of it. Critics of the 1978 CSRA "reform" measure feared that the bipartisan balance and impartiality characterizing OPM's predecessr, the U.S. Civil Service Commission, would be a thing of the past once OPM, headed solely by a sitting administration's appointees, began operations. Yet again have their concerns been vindicated.

You state that my post was "total nonsense," and then launch totally irrelevant, ad hominem attacks against Bush, Romney, and Reagan, as though this somehow disproves my point. Are you really that immune to the fine points of logical argument? (rhetorical question)

    CAfed
I have to agree with Jeremiah on this. thatis the first thing I thought when reading the article. OPM should be free of interference but apparantly is not. Seems like a cheap ploy for reelection to me. The person sitting in the White House has not shown the ability to lead this country in the direction it needs to go to recover. Neither has Congress. I fear we are in for something way worse than the last "Great Depression".

  • Depression?
    Working_Fed
OPM will not be free of interference because it is an executive agency. A lot of people feared a nuclear halocaust under Reagan which didn't happen. Romney fears are baseless. The current economic problems are that projected costs for businesses will sky rocket next year without any increase in revenue. Obama won't say he will reduce those costs only a vague plan to make the wealthy pay more to pay for future investments. That fails to deal with the current issue of higher costs to run a business that will happen next year. Paying more for infrastructure does not result in people buying your goods. Teachers and firemen paid for in 2009 did not make any business today able to produce cheaper goods. Investments need to help make products more competitive otherwise manufacturing will continue to regress. Romney gets that and Obama doesn't.

  • Materially higher expenses?
    Moderate
First, civil servants should not be political. If my boss were to tell me to do something political, I would go to the people who watch over us and file charges. However, I agree the political appointees can cause problems.-----Again, the current economic problems came from the George Bush and the Republicans Depression. We do not need more of that from Romney, who is captive to the tea party and the radical right. They only get it for the wealthy and not for the average person.-----I assume that the average costs for bigger business may sky rocket because they will be forced to supply medical plans for their employees. Most of the bigger businesses have medical plans for their employees cont)

  • Materially higher expenses part 2

Perhaps you are writing about higher tax rates for the wealthy. They got a great deal from George Bush and the Republicans, so they must give something back. And we can use the money to repair our infrastructure. That means hiring people which allows them to spend more money. Your second to last comment makes no sense, so I cannot respond properly to it.------What Romney gets is exporting work to other countries and paying American workers less so the wealthy can get more money. Obama is more concerned with the middle class.

  • 2013 health premiums?
disgusted fed who hopes to hold out until retirement
While it has not been widely distributed, OPM has decided to keep the ACA-mandated premium rebates given out by the insurance carriers (instead of taking the little bit of time to distribute it). The are able to take our premiums and send them to specific companies, so I think it would be pretty easy to send out the rebates. This way they can show that they did something.
