The Postal Regulatory Commission has weighed in with a reduced hours of service proposal that constitutes the equivalent of applying a fiscal band-aid to a gaping postal deficit chest wound. It also guarantees that no post offices will actually be closed, as it is extremely unlikely that any community surveyed as to the impact of potential closure of its post office would "strongly" agree with such a measure. The Commission appears to live in an alternate universe where going through the futile motions of suggesting such jejune steps means coming up with actual problem solutions. It also would appear that abolishing the Commission and applying its budget to the USPS deficit might be the only thing its members could contribute of any value to help resolve the enormous problems facing that struggling agency.
