  • Teleconference? Sure...you too Congress.
    Just me
I have noted the consistent demand the federal agencies use teleconferencing more, and travel less. All-in-all not an unreasonable demand. Maybe it's one that Congress should take seriously itself? You know, in a lead by example kind of methodology? I am thinking, specifically, about CODELS, Junkets, and the recent fault finding trip to Los Angeles...to which nobody came. Those things ALSO come at taxpayer expense, and are equally wasteful of taxpayer dollars. I am thinking that, maybe, we need some regulation which states that Congressmen must campaign for office on their own time, and not during the hours they are being paid to conduct the PEOPLE'S business, rather than their own. Indeed, with Congress actually IN THE OFFICE for more than a three day work week, they might actually perform some of the oversight and leadership duties that have been so woefully neglected of late. I doubt we'll get anyone in Congress to take up this legislation, but it would be a nice rallying call this election season "Congress, heal thyself."

So who will investigate Congress travel and conference Expenses? Oh, my mistake! They are funded by special interest groups and lobbyists. No federal appropriations are used.

  • when will they investigate funding for training and travel?
    OSLOFED
Training expenses are outrageous and for topics that are idiotic. I am not sure who is analyzing the training courses or who makes the decision. Just to name a couple of examples; my agency pays $5,000 to $10,000 per day on training. What kind of specialized training would justify that kind of training you ask? "Getting along with others", they flew in some old guy from Florida for this training, he told us during lunch that the contract was for $10,000.00 for that days training. Ridiculous, we learned nothing, it was stupid. We had taken the training to get a break or day off. Another thing they are not looking at is excessive attendance of conferences by senior managers. One person just went to Costa Rica, 5 star hotel, limo ride. Another, to Australia, 4 star hotel, taxi rides. Airline cost to Australia? $15,000.00. Seems outrageous but it's a business class ticket, round trip, refundable. All this still going on people.
