  • Dress Code lunacy

All I know is my boss wants uniforms mandated like women in skirts and men is slacks so we can all look like the "navy blue skirt and blue trousers crowd" - with women showing some leg of course. Where do they get these guys? The modern thought is that if you are doing a decent job but not necessarily getting a lot of pay, you can wear casual slacks and a shirt (with a collar). To dress someone up in a suit when they are getting a low amount of money or they are not important is considered ridiculous. It is like giving someone an office and a suit and them having no work to do (which sounds awfully familiar around here).

Seems like the perfect pant for govt job, metro, bus line, commuting in bad weather, etc. Who needs a drycleaner bill? But some people have asked how come I never wear dark trousers? I do but they must not catch me that day. I have plenty of suits, but in this era of pay freezes and no colas, why wear them?

  • Why dress up when you're
    uwm
not dealing with the public? We get advance warning of meetings/conferences, etc so we know how to dress on that particular day. Most days we just sit in our little cubes and offices talking only to our colleagues. Why should I have to dress up for my coworkers? I have other more important things to spend my money on besides clothes.

For all my years of government service I've been hearing about the "No Dress Code". Yet, everyone I see is dressed; which is good thing because I'd hate to see the alternative.

Loved it !! Infortunately in some IRS campus locations "No Dress Code" is about all it covers. Hippo with a hankie says it all.

Now come on, when I worked in an IRS Service Center, they had to ask the data processors to walk around on the main isle rather than cutting through the rows of desks........why, they were too distracting to the guys. Those guys loved break time. They would all look up and watch the girls walk by in the short shorts and short tops, then get back to work.

  • Watch your eyes
    Rock Man
Attention healthy heterosexual men: Watch your eyeballs in this season of skimpy dress. If you're caught looking at certain objects on a woman's bod, you could be in for a sexual harassment charge... no questions asked.

and those "victims" of sexual harassment are the first to complain. Modesty, regardless of age, income or social status is always a smart thing. No need for prudish appearance but simple modesty shows pride in ones self, your work and denotes a certain self respect that is invaluable.

If people dress in provocative ways then they will attract visual attention. Becca, you made a good point.
