Life (or is it people nowadays?) has gotten so ridiculous. Yes, I smoke but I am what they say, a closet smoker(hubby doesn't like it either). At work, I have 4 a day. That may only be 4 cigs a day but I look forward to each and every one of them and enjoy them immensely. Even with the mints, you can never hide your breath, I understand that, but if someone puts something in their mouth, it at least helps somewhat. And so many smokers don't do anything, suck on a mint or chew some gum, that even gags me. But ex-smokers (worse kind) and everyone else frown down on us. I work, have a home and pay taxes, vote, raised a family, saved money, take vacations, etc. I do everything else a non smoker does but you are going to frown down on me and turn your nose up at me?? I have gotten very "stuck up" myself to these self made righteous people. I respect my smoking, no matter where I am (and I also realize that alot of smokers don't care) and as long as you moan about this, I will keep it up! Everyone asks me if I only smoke 4 cigs a day, I should be able to quit. Yes, I could but I don't want to!

  • Stop with the whining - all you smokers

Smokers need to stop acting like they keep getting "picked on" and "abused". It's for a very, very good reason. Haven't you ever heard of something called SECOND HAND SMOKE? It's one thing when people do things that only affects THEM. If a person wants to destroy their body by sticking a drug induced needle up their arm, it's very sad, but it only hurt THEIR BODY and no one elses. But when something you do affects others, then there is a problem. And it's worse for the person breathing it in, then the one breathing it out! Not fair! Why should other people get cancer, emphysema, asthma, or anything else from YOUR addiction?? I never understood the logic of people that smoke! When I have to walk past someone smoking I always have an allergic reaction and start coughing uncontrollably. I try to hold my breath if I see them ahead of time, but often the come up from behind me on the street or I turn a corner and don't see them in time. When I start to cough, they usually look at me and roll their eyes. Excuse me, why should it be ok for MY body and MY health to be affected in any way shape or form becuase of something that YOU are doing? And what about children? Kids have fewer defenses than adults and get sick a lot easier. I know of kids that have asthma because of smokers! Why should they suffer like that? If you want to damage YOUR health and destroy YOUR body - that's your choice. But you should NOT be allowed to do damage to anyone elses. It really should be against the law altogher!!

  • Whining?

I have parents. I am 50. You don't need to look out for my life. No one is getting second hand smoke walking into a building when smokers are standing the prescribed distance away. The Surgeon General set the standards. If it's a probem for you, get the excersice you are so inerested in and walk around to another entrance. There isn't a building in the country that doesn't have 2 ways in. Smokers don't general smoke around their kids anymore, we are not heartless idiots--but again, this is NOT your job to lecture anyone else on how we live! How do you like this? Eat something drink something but keep your mouth shut about MY smoking. I do not want your smothering. I can't breathe from your smothering opinions!!

I do not care if you smoke. However, I should not have to go out of my way to avoid your cigarette smoke. Your cmoke imposes on me if I have to breathe it. I do not impose on you.

  • It's Bush's Fault!
    Putt-Putt
This anti-smoker movement has to be Mr. Bush's fault. The current Smoker-in-Chief wouldn't have started the attack on his fellow Federal cigarette lovers. And for sure it couldn't have been Mr. Clinton (he of cigar-loving fame). I just get all depressed thinking about the havoc Bush has caused to the Federal workforce.

    Moderate
Yes, it is Bush's fault. Let's blame him for that. By the way, this has been going on since the 60's or earlier. So which Bush?

The person complaining about the smoke at the Service Center in Brookhaven is being typically self centered. She doesn't have to walk through those courtyards at all, she just uses them as a short cut. If she was willing to walk a few steps without using a shortcut, she could simply allow the smokers a place to smoke. But no, it's all about her. I was at that Service Center once before I quit smoking. I was walking through the parking lot with a cigarette in my hand, and a woman walking behind me started to yell at me. She said my smoke was making her gag, that it was giving her an asthma attack and that I was rude. There was one problem however. My cigarette wasn't lit. Of course I showed her my unlit cigarette at which point her face turned red. One would think she might apologize for her rudeness, but of course she didn't. She told me it didn't matter because I was going to light my cigarette. I told her that's true, I was going to, when I found an area that wasn't labeled no smoking.
