  • Just Numb to it all
    Lisa Lisa
After the last few years of listening to Republican Congress demoralize federal employees (while on taxpayers dime), I have just come to a point of being numb about it all. Perhaps because I have not been in the govt 30 yrs and not realized that this is a perpetual cycle fed employees must endure as part of our choice to be a fed employee that we are always the "go to" for Republicans and that at the end of the day, federal employees in some form, are the root cause of all the debt of this nation and therefore we must be sanctioned by a wave of a wand. At this point, I have no feeling one way or another about our pay..perhaps a feeling of defeat here after voicing my outrage for so long only to realize that we will never have the platform for a voice that Congress has and can use it on the job..like Congress even when its to slam civil servants. After all we by law cant do so, but our politicians can. I do have a little fight left in me, and I will take that to the voting booth with a feeling of stickin it to em.

  • Who do you trust?
    Putt-Putt
I have a dog, 125lbs Rottie/German Shepherd mix. When he doesn't like someone he growls, bears his teeth and puffs his fur. His message is received loud & clear and people stay away. I also have a tiny little cat. He purrs, winds himself around your legs, and will curl up on your lap waiting for you to rub his chin, and scratch his ears. Then, when he's gotten what he wants out of you, he pounces - bites your hand, claws your stomach and runs off to find another unsuspecting victim. I think I'll change their names to Republican and Democratic - you decide which is which.

  • Repubs are the bad ones
    Moderate
I don't think so. The Dems try to not stick it to the fed workers, but political pressure plus the Republican house forces the issue. In 2009 and 2010 Obama was pretty good in spite of the Bush and the Republicans Depression. The Repubs really try to stick it to us. Look at the Reagan years as a primary example.

  • No Feeling Left
    Fed1979
I've been with the government 33 years and yes it is a cycle we go through. But I have never seen it last this long or been as vicious as it is now. I have less than a year to go and I will be leaving. I never regretted opting for federal service over private industry but the bashing has taken it's toll on me. There is no way I would recommend federal employment to anyone. It amounts to being a scapegoat and who wants to make a career of that?

  • 376,000 years
    deployed decoy
Stories abound that when congress lets the country fall off the fiscal cliff, unemployment will immediately spike 1.5%. Congress, of every elected party and pet project got us here. As I noted last week, if the USA pays off the $15,000,000,000,000.00 debt at $1.00 per second. It will only take 476,000 years. The entire federal welfare, social security and defense programs could be cut to ZERO funding tomorrow and it would still take most of a couple hundred years to pay off the debt (assuming nothing that survived was ever given a dime more going forward than they receive today). This problem is not going to be fixed with another federal employee pay freeze or a $600B over 10 years whack to Defense. When the common voter figures this out, at least the federal employees that got us here will be fired, yes that is you congress. The real problem was summed up by the Dutch Prime Minister a couple months ago. He said; we all know the right thing to do. We just dont know how to get reelected after we do it. I am not sure he had it completely right though. This cliff is so high now, I am not sure anything short of worldwide default by the USA and the EU can come close to fixing it. The other very real problem is when the Treasury starts printing $10,000 bill. This is really going to cut into my salary or retirement standard of living. Not sure how long I can hold out when a beer sells for $45,000 at a dart bar.

  • Debt vs depression
    Moderate
Thank Bush and the Repubs for the depression. Now the Dems have to spend the money to get us out of their mess. Perfect example is Hoover's answer to the economic calamity vs Roosevelt's answer.

OK Fine I give, Bush caused the biggest depression since Germany in the 1930s printed 10,000,000,000 Marks and bread was just as expensive. The problem is the dept has gone up around 40% under your Dem gods. Not a thing to show for it, sans welfare moms no longer have to work or look for work. The other problem even when the the Dems get US to a 99% welfare state. someone is going to have to pay for it. Got any ideas.

First, the correct answer is since the US Depression starting with the 1929 stock market crash and continuing with Hoover's tightening instead of loosening money and spending. My solution involves going back to 2000 and correcting the retarded Supreme Court decision regarding Florida. Barring that, the only solution is to continue the deficit spending until the recovery heats up more. I also recommend that the Bush tax cuts be eliminated for the wealthy. However, I disagree with the $250000 figure as being much too low. The rest of your stuff is pure nonsense; 99% welfare? I heard that there is a 5 year limit for those collecting welfare.

The FL thing would have ended EXACTY like the courts ruled anyway. All the Supream Court did was get the country moving one direction sooner. check it out dude. If Gore got everything he wanted county by county - he still LOST FL As for Germany the (USA) great depression took a couple years to trickle down to Europe. Thus it was around 1932 that 1,000,000 Mark Shines were printed to pay for 3,000,000 loafs of bread...

  • Really?
    Moderate
Your comments are not accurate. We do not know what would have happened because the recount was stopped. Therefore, no one really knows who would have won Florida if the recount was done. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Bush for a reason that I cannot fathom. However, it was political.------ You are confusing the Great Depression with hyperinflation. Germany printed money to pay its bills as it had nothing.

  • Congresstoads are no better than women who sell themselves.
    The Original Joe S
At least the women give you something of worth when they take your money. I pulled the plug IMMEDIATELY upon being eligible. I live in a far-away Kingdom where everything is much less expensive, and where old folks are RESPECTED. That money hits no later than 5 min past midnight every first of the month. I spend a good portion of it on women and whiskey, and just waste the rest.

I assume this is on a western Pacific shore, possibly a hector of private beach. Yep my plan exactly, it is amazing how far a $100 bill can take a guy in one of those really poor places once you get away from the brand name hotels in the city. Well I also have a old growth log cabin an hour over dirt roads and locked Kelly bar gates from the last holdout of civilization at lands end in Washington state. Have everything deposited in my CU and just do free bank transfers for anything USA and free ATM withdrawals for local currency. I bank at a two branch operation that places customers first. And use IE and Skype to stay connected, at least until the GPS array falls out of orbit.
