    Those are the employees who will ruin it for the rest of us. When I work from home, I accomplish much more than I do at work. Less distractions at home. At work, I have people constantly popping in to "just ask a quick question," or a coworker who wants to tell me about his weekend, or a junior person who needs help with a spreadsheet. The problem is, our management will not reprimand the one lazy idiot who is taking advantage of the situation (btw, most of these problem employees are between the ages of 20-30 and are part of the "Entitlement Generation").

    Just a Voice
    First time caller, long time listener. Maybe in your office you have this problem with the so-called "Entitlement Generation." Not in my office. The "Entitlement" folk, as you call them, are actually the most innovative and hardest working. Most of the problem people on this end, are typically late 40s, early 50s, and have this "untouchable" attitude since they've been in for so long. A lazy one or two per office exists no matter what their age or demographic. In a tough economy, I would like to think that everyone who has a job is grateful enough and fulfills their role. God knows there are plenty of people willing enough to do the job if a lazy few won't. On the subject of telework, greatest idea to further progress in the workplace. Level of productivity and goals met have increased for me, personally, and with my colleagues who telework, as well. Only one questionable situation of someone taking advantage of the opportunity to telework. The person in question is not between the ages of 20 and 30, either.

    I think we're talking about the wrong context. True abuse isn't about age groups, a lack of willingness or other personal obstacles. It's not even about the gray area of productivity. It's about people that aren't putting in an honest days work. Recognizing human behavior, I think it's safe to say that people who abuse this in the office will abuse it even more out of the office. There will always be a significant percentage of people that will only make an effort to work when they're supervised. The broad-brush application of telework dismisses this.
