  • Tax not hike

A pension is a payment given in retirement, in essence a deffered form of compensation. It is logical then that a pension hike is an increase in the payment. Asking a person to pay more for a government provided benefit is a tax. So, please do not characterize this as a hike. It is a payroll-tax applied to a select group of citizens for the purpose of providing deferred compensation to federal employees.

I got a better idea. Instead of making feds pay more to keep the military budget from being cut, let's raise taxes on the wealthy, cut the military budget, and keep the social programs from being cut. The Republicans will negotiate from their end and the Democrats should negotate from this end. Perhaps, the GOP will back off.
