OK - back to the real waste in government - there are many, many employees who have been using Web 2.0 tools such as this forum to report that their boss never gives them any work to do. In most of these federal organizations, there seems to be "scapegoats" or "people who don't speak perfect English," or "someone who disagreed with the boss once" (yes that's right - all it takes is once) - and then the boss doesn't give them any work to do, and tries to get them to quit that way. I'm estimating a good five percent of the workforce are doing practically nothing because their boss doesn't like them and refuses to deal with them. The boss doesn't need to shuffle duties or retrain if he can fudge the evaluations every year and say "yeah, the employee is doing OK but needs improvement. Save the bonus money on that one - he just needs to improve." When are employees going to have a recourse for this kind of fraud and waste and abuse that is fully supported by employee evaluations and cronies in management? Where is the real output measurements of production that can ID bosses that aren't producing product? I'm about ready to attach a letter to every evaluation stating that the boss needs to give me work to do and job objectives worthy of me showing up to work every day and then I can proceed to worry about doing a job (which I don't have just yet even though I'm being paid) and performance measurements and performances that get bonuses. First I need some job duties?

What a farce! The congressionoal pots calling the GSA kettles wasters of federal taxpayer dollars. Who built the fancy airport in PA? Who bult the four lane highway in WV? Who built (is building) the bridge to nowhere in AK? Who is not funding highway and bridge infrastructure repair? Congress wastes billions of dollars investigating drugs in baseball, impeaching a president for personal failures, and trying to push women back into the 1950'd Donna Reed mold. If only they paid the same amount of attention to the budget as they do to just about anything BUT the budget, we might be better off.

  • I like that WV Hwy
    contrarian
If you're talking about I-68 that is. Have you seen the tolls on Penn Tpk lately? But, shhh don't tell anybody. I like having that road to myself. I'm sure there are plenty of better examples.

  • Turnpike
    Moderate
I avoid the turnpike for personal use when possible. It is costly. Of course, generally, my mpg for the car is much better on the turnpike. So there is a trade off.

GSA wasted less than a million dollars - good grief, that's pin money to Congress. Congress failed to pass the Buffett rule taxing the very people who have benefitted most from being Americans, to the tune of nearly $50 BILLION dollars - Million, Billion I guess there's not so much difference, huh?

  • Taxes
    Moderate
I do not think the Buffett rule is good. I would rather set the tax brackets for taxable income, say at $500000 at a higher rate, say 40% and 1,000,000 at 45%. Capital gains should be taxed at 0-15%, but dividends should be taxed at a higher rate because that is not a long term gain. These items, for the most part are wealthy item issues, even though others do have this type of income.
