Maybe I'm missing something, but if all the race averages are below $56,000, how can that be the average as stated in the article? Is there some race not mentioned that earns so much that the average is pulled up higher? Also, I keep hearing that Government workers make twice what the average U.S. worker makes. An average of $56,000 sounds very modest to me. What's the fuss all about?

  • Average Salary is lower

than the private sector. However, the overall federal compensation package is much higher when the pension and other fringe benefits are considered. I have neighbors that are retired feds making nearly 90k in retirement plus medical coverage. Not a bad deal!

Of course there are retired feds making $90000. How about the retired feds getting $20000? They are probably not in your neighborhood.

The article states "the average GS employee is a 10.1 grade and makes $45,771". The legend box just happens to be next to the $56,000 line.

The asians in federal service are likely predominantly in the science and tech fields, so yeah they will be at higher rates. Did anyone think to break this down by job category? No, because that involves, you know, actual journalism and math. Better to throw the data out there unanalyzed and leave some vague racial overtone to hang over it.

  • Worthless report
    NormalDude
Pay by race? How about by position like the poster before me mentioned? This report was a waste of the taxpayers money.

  • Also, everyone knows that affirmative action degrees don't mean intelligence.

This is just another survey to get the government into forcing the promotion of minorities over those who really qualify for the positions. Its a racial survey alright...
