If there isn't a different president this time next year, we're all (US citizens) screwed.

  • "If there isn't a different president this time next year, we're all (US citizens) screwed."?
    FERS Fed
Given the Republican field of candidates, I suggest all US citizens will be REALLY screwed if there IS a different president this time next year....except maybe the 1%ers.

But think about it. Also in the bill is federal employees will be able to deposit lump sum from unused annual leave into TSP accounts, under H.R. 7 and H.R. 3813. Just cant wait to drop 14 weeks of leave into TSP this December, so the govt can spend it for me on interest we owe China. What a deal.

    MDBBALL02
Please explain to the rest of us how you have 14 weeks of ANNUAL Leave to deposit. The cap is 6 weeks of carryover a year (240 hours) for Annual Leave ... Earning 8 hours a payperiod, I earn 5.2 more weeks every year ... STILL NOT 14 week sof ANNUAL .... I have over 1200 hours of SICK leave I'd love to deposit, but as a FERS employee I'll only get 1/2 the value of that , as I understand it....

Two groups can actually accumulate more than 240 hours (6 weeks) of leave. SESers and those who work overseas. SES has no maximum carryover. I worked overseas and accumulated the max 360 hours (9 weeks). As long as you don't let your leave fall below 360 you can continue to carry that balance. Thus when you retire it is possible to sell back 15 weeks (technically even more becauseif you have use or lose scheduled in the last quarter and it is cancelled you can gain approval to carry forward above the 240/360 although it becomes use or lose for the next year.) When I retired in September 2006, I sold back 500 hours (12.5 weeks). Had I waited until the end of the calendar year I could have sold a full 14 weeks.

  • Overseas
    deployed decoy
well overseas our base pay is +14% below RUS, we have no federal labor law protections under FLSA, I could go on. But one bonus is we can carry over up to 9 weeks (360 hours). Plus 5 weeks earned this year, is fourteen. I had a freind that was a GS15 step 10 that was in Iraq for most of 3 years. Since he was at the federal payroll cap. He only worked for Comp Time. Took most of 3 months off a year on Comp. And since he was allowed to carry over forever (because he was a GS15) all that annual. He cashed out 20 weeks plus those 9 when he retired... Sure beats a VSIP.

If it was so good, why was it taken off the board? I did not get a chance to read it. If you complement it, it must be pretty bad. Have Mike get it back so it can be read. Also, look at the Republicans for hypocrisy. They weasel word the middle class and then support the wealthy.

I read someplace that men (elected ones) in DC consume more hard alcohol and teenage girls than Arab men in a Thailand strip club. DC may have the rudest drivers, don’t know never drove there. LA I can attest has some pretty rude drivers and 6th Ring Blvd in Kuwait City holds the distinction of the deadliest road in the world. I got to drive 6th ring last night during RED road conditions for the military (visibility under 150 feet blowing and drifting dirt with dirt drifts in the traffic lanes). It is not just sand, but garbage, heavy metals and I digress fecal matter... The job requires I go out there in all conditions and deal with folks driving 100MPH (speed limit during good conditions is 75MPH). Course the emergency lane where they lay out the bodies is also the high speed passing lane after a few fly through the windscreen because seatbelts are never used. Thus besides dodging inbred fools that don’t turn on head lights (takes 1/4 HP to run those you know), I get to dodge flying body parts. Toilet paper is also an option here, the reason one eats with the right hand. It could be worse for those folks in DC, a lot worse. Not the least would be they were TDY to Apple Valley, CA and had to get down Cajon Pass to LA on the highway because the freeway was closed for fog and snow with dozens dead. Did that once also, everyone should.

One thing that I know for sure... No one has the answers - Democrats nor Republicans. If you know the federal process, then you should know that we can NEVER blame the President for our woes. The president is our (keyword: OUR) figurehead, a spokesperson. Our government is flawed because we have political parties that are complete failures. The political parties are flawed because they are controlled by money-hungry, selfish egomaniacs. Sure, there are certainly a few lawmakers who are true and are really trying to make POSITIVE change. But there are far too many who are capitulating to the lobbyists and big money and the desires of a small community of supporters. We will never have 'glory' days in this country because there is too much pushing, shoving, and tearing down versus team-building. We have not had forward motion in our Government since... Well, never. One step forward; two steps back. I don't have big money and I don't have the answers either, which is why I sit back and watch. And, I don't spread hate and anger, as opposed to some of the comments below. None of this babble is helping our current situation. It seems some people just have to be heard, self included. So, please, be quiet.

Why is it that when we get the white stuff from mother nature that people make an emergency run to go buy white stuff? I've heard nutritionists say that consuming white stuff is bad. The toilet paper is necessary, though.

  • White Stuff?
    Joe
Is the white stuff people in DC consume milk, sugar, cocaine, or all of the above? Some environmentalists only want us to use one square of toilet paper per BM. Somehow that will save the planet. Our hands will be as dirty as those in Kuwait.

  • There are much more important things to talk about
    kenifer47
for Federal employees than whether OPM did the right thing. Look at all these comments and on the stories about the transportation bill that's being used to railroad the federal employee. Our pay and benefits are to most of us, the most important issue there is. Get on Congress to get their heads where they belong and get off criticizing OPM for a decision that really didn't affect anything. We weren't let loose, we were given the option to use our leave. You should know better if you've ever been a fed.

Somehow "unscheduled leave" seems to get twisted to mean free time off...how that occurs, I would love to know. Last time I looked, leave was earned, so using it -- either scheduled or unscheduled -- was going to happen at some point... Sure, the "snow" was a non-event, but so was OPM's response! I will give them credit for at least doing something reasonable. If you felt like you needed to leave work early, you could take leave. Sounds reasonable from an agency not always credited with reason.
