  • MLK Day
    deployed decoy
I am holding out for Native American day. After all that was the first group of people the white man (myself included) killed off. In some cases using weapons of mass destruction (Small Pox). Then we need to factor in MLK died in vein in some regards. The sitting President supports international slavery for the ‘greater good’ of the USA. But maybe Barn Owl Day has a better chance of becoming the next federal holiday. One thing the white man did as he raped and pillaged the new world was cut down trees (he also took syphilis back to the old world that only lamas had before, but that is another story). From those trees were created the Barn Owl, a species we created. Not our fault the Spotted Owl is a dead-end subspecies, to slow to evolve and move into warm dry barns, full of fat mice for dinner. Hence the Barn Owl is the icon to the world representing the American ingenuity. Smart, fat and better tasting than road kill (something the Bald Eagle lives off all winter in the Rocky Mountain States)…

Decoy, you need to retire. You are such a skeptic.......First, the Bald Eagle in the Rocky Mountain States much prefers fresh fish to road kill. I see a lot more Bald Eagle cruising the river and sitting trees watching for fish or rodents that eating road kill. After all of my years in Montana, I have only seen 1 Bald Eagle by the side of the road eating road kill. They are massive when on the ground, you don't realize when you see them flying at a distance...........experts also still think syphillis came from the old country, was taken to the New World and then brought back again....however, I agree that is subject to much debate. Origins are most likely Spain, but, of course it is tough to tie it down after all these years.........Never heard the sitting president is for International Slavery, and I am sure he would deny it...I do like the Barn Owl and also the Great Horned Owl, although I have only seen a Great Horned Owl once, sitting on a fence by the highway looking for dinner. I have yet to see a Barn Owl. Maybe they don't live in Montana......for some possitive thoughts.......yesterday was a nice relaxing day and I got lots of chores put off during the holiday season done!!

  • Linda RU CSRS or FERS
    deployed decoy
http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2011/09/30/presidential-memorandum-trafficking-persons Check this link, the official web page for the White House and this years version of the president allowing the slave trade. Need to hit the USA Kuwait embassy for the actual TIP report though. Course for 3 weeks in Sept 11, it was a US federal crime for me to be in Kuwait, as last years presidential exception was expired. Try as I did, ICS would not arrest me when I entered the USA during that same period. I agree Eagles like to kill their food, but also I traveled the west for 15 years with 2 agencies. I have seen hundreds of eagles eating road kill in the winter. More than a few road kill themselves, to slow to get out off the highway. I will retire this year. This is complicated however. I was hired in April 1984, FERS came to be 1 Jan 1987. I went to print FERS retirement forms last week and figured out I have a choice of being CSRS Offset or FERS. In both cases the current agency on the hook to pay for mistakes made by a different agency 2 1/2 decades ago. So I cant even submit the paperwork until I am established in the correct retirement plan. As for syphilis. I used FOIA and yep the Queen of Spain was formally briefed by a Conquistador ship captain in 1612 that a lama climbed up the anchor rope and well had his way with the crew… The alternative was a crime against god in the 1600s.

I see that your topic, and subject(?), audience is the 20-30 year old range of people. I also notice you emulate their congenital inability to either spell correctly or employe the correct word. Your sentence, sir, "If enough old-timers (I know, look whose talking) can be persuaded, that could open the promotion pipeline which, in many parts of the government, has been clogged for a long time." In the parenthesis the word should be who is, contracted thusly, who's. Whose is possessive. By the way, many of the "old-timers" experienced zero promotional opportunities from the late 80s through the Clinton 90s. Then, in the interest of generational diversity and other left-wing lunacy, the executive and cabinet level cretins decided that since the "older" workers were not promoted then they must not be capable and deserving of advancement. They want the "older" workers to train the younger ones and then watch those younger ones get the promotions. Yeah, right.

Proofreading and editing have never been strong suits in Mike's column, even when Susan K. was around to keep him on his toes. In any given daily issue you can easily find at least one grammatical or journalistic error. I used to make a game out of it and try to find as many errors as I could. But it was too easy and I got bored. So why pick on this error? Besides, the value of his column far exceeds the cost of zero dollars. But you are exactly right on your characterization of executives' treatment of older workers. What a horrible disservice these so called 'leaders' are doing to their agencies and to the public they serve.

  • Retire due to $25000

Why would someone making $75000, $100000, $125000, or $150000 or more be induced to retire for $25000 unless that person is going to retire anyway? This buyout makes no sense.

their full retirement, the $25k is just a bonus to leave earlier. As for younger Feds not wanting govvie jobs, it's because they want the paycheck but not work for it. I had one co worker who told me she used to intern at DOJ, she noted she and her homie friends would take off for 2-3 hours on a regular basis and go clothes shopping. This is the mindset of the younger generation, they are more interested in where & when Happy Hour is going to be then doing their jobs.

  • Your comment reinforces the glaring political disparities

among agencies. Mike has a good point in that he feels younger workers will stick around to leverage promotion opportunities. I respectfully disagree because I think it depends on which agency they choose. For example, your free-spirited DOJ coworker would have been miserable at my (former)agency, although she would have found the latest in couture burkas in downtown Kabul. She would have been awed by living quarters that rival the Ritz-Carlton. It's amazing what they can do with tents these days. They offer state-of-the-art spa services such as the Sandstorm Pedi, the Baby Wipes shower and the Sun-baked facial. Unfortunately, since it's a booze-free zone her Happy Hour would consist of coffee and maybe a few nuts. The cuisine, however, is fabulous and I heard Chef Ramsey works wonders with goat innards. She wouldn't have time for all those luxuries anyway since the work hours are 6 12-hour days. She missed out on all that quality time with the military who hate DoD civilians. Wanna bet on how long these 20-and 30-somethings stick around?

They would not get the same retirement if they worked an extra year or 2. This assumes you have not reached full 80% and it assumes no freeze for another 3 years. Plus retirement pay is generally much less than the salary unless you are in CSRS and are close to full retirement benefits.----How can you generalize about younger people. They are no different than we were at that age. You have all sorts of people.
