    Rob
    If a Republican proposed a half percent raise Moderate aka 'Leftie' along with all his liberal union friends like Colleen Kelley would go through the roof. So here's the scorecard for those who are keeping score. Obama's raises in his first term: 1.5, 0.00, 0.00, and 0.5. Three of those four raises came when the Dems had super majorities in the House and Senate. All you hear from lefties like Moderate is why would federal employees ever vote for a Republican. ARE YOU FOR REAL?

    ITGEEK
    OK so Obama's being a Scrooge with the .5 percent which I think he can keep that to himself. Let's bring in the other alternative that the GOP has, let's go another 3 year with ALL pay freeze, not step increase, and pitch in a bit more for your benefits.
    { "Agree":"1","Funny":"1","Insightful":"1","Disagree":"-1","Offensive":"-1","Troll":"-1" }
  • What about the previous 3 raises....
    Rob
    How do you explain the 1.5 in 2009, 0.0 in 2011, and 0.0 in 2012? The decisions on those pitiful raises came when the Dems had super majorities in the House and Senate. You liberals always rationalize the bad decisions by this administration by claiming things would be worse under the GOP. Find one GOP president who gave us 1.9, 0.0, 0.0 and 0.5. You won't find one. The fact is, Obama will go down as the worst president when it comes to federal raises. The cumulative effect of those raises over a 30 year career is much more severe than you could ever imagine.

  • Pitiful raises
    ITGEEK
    The last two years of 0 raise came because Obama didn't have enough backbone to stand up to the GOP's demand for cutbacks so he caved in. Go get yourself educated it's the GOP that's attacking the federal work force. Look at all the cutback proposals and see which side of the house initiated it all. One thing thought, don't cut DoD spending, just make sure contractors have plenty of jobs because that's the GOP's government wealth fare.

  • "...rationalize the bad decisions by this administration..."?
    FERS Fed
    In what solar System do you reside, Right-Wing Rob? On Planet Earth, feds here in River City got 4.78% & 2.42% pay increases including locality pay in 2009 & 2010, respectively. Even in 'RUS', feds got 3.52% & 1.77%, respectively, in 2009 & 2010. But ever since Weepy Johnny and the Republican lunatic finge won control of the House -- you know, where spending bills originate -- it's been squat, zero, and zilch for feds. In my opinion, we've been pretty fortunate the Obama administration and the Senate have been able to keep your heroes' -- the Tea Partier's -- hands out of our pockets.

    You gave a very good answer to radical rightist Rob. Rob knows that it is his friends in the Republican party that are sticking it to the Feds. And let us not forget his friends in the propaganda department such as fox "news" and heritage foundation who are attacking fed compensation with their baloney. Oh, yes Rob, you forget about the Bush depression which made our economy so weak. Thus, our pay raises stink. That is why Bush's raises appear so good compared to Obama's raises. And yes rob, I am for real. Rob, are you for real when you write that all I ever say is why would a fed vote republican? It depends on the candidate, but the republican party has gone so far to the right that there is little choice.

    ...have been proposed repeatedly over the past year by the House Republicans AND the White House. Its just a matter of time before it gets enacted. Surely you've heard of this. I don't know about you, but when this gets enacted, I'd like to have something -- no matter how small -- to offset the resulting cut in take home pay.

  • I must agree with obscure
    Moderate
    The pay raise of .5% is an insult. We sacrificed for many years. We have sacrificed since during and after the Reagan years. It may be an attempt to cpompensate us for the increase in retirement contributions, but the solution would be not to increase either one. But, FERS FED, you might be right in that it may happen anyway, with or without the so called pay raise. And remember, we must pay taxes on this pathetic pay increase. We also must remember how much influence the Republicans and the tea party have on this pay increase.

    Why are you calling it an "offense". If you accept the pay offered by the fed for your work, stay. If not, leave. It's a business relationship, not a marriage.

  • Our Vote
    Disenfranchised
    This admin gives away our money on "Green Energy" jobs, Solyndra and other welfare/social givaway programs that make little or no sense at all. To give the federal worker a mere 0.5% pay raise is an insult of the highest order. Does this admin consider this enough to garner my or my families vote? I think not...

    There are so many programs that money is given to that's a total waste of taxpayers money, they should be doing away with them instead of continuing to use federal employees as their scape goat, but they seem to think that makes them look good to the voting public, but they seem to forget we vote also. .5% won't even cover the increase you are going to pay for insurance. • less than 5% of federal budget
    paverfed
    You couldn't be more CORRECT. Federal Pay PLUS benefits = LESS THAN 5 PERCENT of the entire federal budget. That tells you that the gravy, meat, and potatoes (ie. the other 95% of the budget) is being consumed by entitlements, wasteful and duplicitous programs, and (some, not all) military projects. This is penny wise and pound foolish. 1/2 percent raise in 3 years.
    { "Agree":"1","Funny":"1","Insightful":"1","Disagree":"-1","Offensive":"-1","Troll":"-1" }
  • Not quite the right saying
    Zoopy
    "Penny wise, pound foolish" describes choices that have the appearance of prudence, but are imprudent when a more comprehensive analysis is done. A better expression here would be that Congress has far "bigger fish to fry" than fed salaries.

  • Remember
    Moderate
    Your retirement, lifetime medical, and social security are entitlements. Consider that before you criticize entitlements. They are different from welfare, corporate welfare and payoffs, rewards for political friends in the form of contracts, some military rewards, etc. Put the military programs in the same category as entitlements, some are good and some are not.

    Feenagled
    I first saw this news on another, more mainstream site. There was such strong resentment on that comment board (not that most board comments aren't negative), that I fear even the paltry .5% may not hold up. If fact, it may be counterproductive as the "increase" again places G-workers compensation squarely in the spotlight. Considering that it is only a few hundred a year, I wonder if we wouldn't get more mileage out of a 3rd year of freeze.
