    I can understand the fact we need to cut spending, but don't contradict yourself by saying we need more people teleworking and then cut the funds for what we need to make that happen. i.e. cellphones, laptops etc….

    Great point, Stopthemadness. Also, if they're going to cut travel that much, then they need to be prepared to put some serious $$ up front to build more video-teleconferencing (VTC) facilities and capabilities. There's not enough now! There's always a fight to get a slot in what are now limited VTC facilities, especially if you need to have a secure VTC (SVTC).

    I can already see how this is going to play out. Travel will be restricted, so fewer on site inspections at my contractor facility. Product deliveries will slip and product deficiencies will increase. Next step is either its the Governments fault and we pay to have production problem fixed or its vendors fault and schedule slips while they fix. I always marvel how we restrict a $1,000 trip on a multi-million dollar contract and wonder why the program manager has trouble managing the program from a distance......

    Do these cuts include policians? Maybe they need to start using public transportation or driving to work like the rest of us. NO MORE LIMOS/EXPENSIVE SUVS for them at the taxpayer's expense! Time to stop having separate rules for the elite and the working class. Overpaid gas bags all of them. All they care about is the rich - themselves.

  • Budget cuts

    Our government should be making spending cuts now while Congress is debating program cuts. We have a huge federal budget. Intuitively every American knows there are billions of dollars, that if cut, would not affect the various programs. We should be making these cuts now. There is a divide in America between those who want a smaller government and those who want a more active, and thus larger, government. The issue is what is governments role. This will dictate the size of government.and spending The Preamble of the Constitution says: "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."     Republican bean counters are usually way ahead of Democrats when it comes to messaging and they have also learned long ago to never compromise. If Barack Obama recommended a 30% cut in the federal workforce and pay Republicans would counter with 50% cuts. As a matter of fact, Republicans would love nothing better than to eliminate the entire federal government. Their mantra has always been "cheaper is better," even if it means a complete degradation in services and agencies that protect the health and welfare of the American people. Democrats have not learned the mastery of horsetrading.
