  • Thrown under the bus again? I'm shocked...shocked!
    Just me
The Democrats have decided that federal employees are either going to support President Obama under any circumstances, or they'll refuse to support the Republicans. This leaves them free to propose ideas such as those suggested in the article. The unfortunate part of this equation is that taking these hits in no way immunizes feds from MORE cuts by the right. Since most federal employees AREN'T going to separate from federal service in the current economy, there are no real consequences for adopting an anti-fed position. The Republicans don't care if feds leave in large numbers...in fact, they'd prefer it. Feds, literally, have no real friends in office. No matter who gets elected, in 2012, we can be assured that the proposed changes are only the beginning of attacks on us.

    1st generation American
If you look at recent history we feds have done MUCH worse when a Dem is sitting in the big chair. It happened with Clinton and now the current guy. If you are anti Repub just say it. But try to get you facts right. Or just keep voting Dem no matter how bad they treat you. I had hope for change. Now I'm still hoping for some change.

  • What combination is best for fed employees
    Rob
Feds make out the best when a Republican is in the White House and Dems control Congress. Total control by one party is never good for Feds.

Your point is well taken. It supports a clash with the other side which might be best for feds. Sorry for my jaded opinion, but it might be accurate.

  • Better under Republicans cont)?

it is true that our raises under Bush were much better than under Obama. However, the Bush Depression did not start until late 2007. By then the federal raises are determined for 2008. Obama did not have any input until the raises for 2010 were to be determined. By then, the employment depression was in full swing. The Republicans and their cohorts were and are calling for much worse for feds than anything the democrats and Obama are imposing. That is why I continue to support the democrats as the lesser of 2 evils. And yes, I have the facts straight.

Don't vote for any of them. Vote for the guy (or gal) that is challenging the incumbent. Or, to put it more simply, clean house. And let them know why they are there.

Let us see how true that is.Clinton was not that great for us, but he was overwhelmingly better than Reagan. Reagan fired the air traffic controllers for violating the law, but Reagan was not fired when he did not negotiate with them. How about the 1 year wage freeze with the second year being a 2% raise. let us not forget, however, the 50% increase in our medical premium during the freeze and the closing of open season until NTEU went to court over this. Let us not forget that FERS was created, and pushed by Reagan, during the Reagan years. Our pay fell from about 9% behind the private sector to about 30% behind during the Reagan years. No I think Reagan was worse than any president I worked for, but I never worked for Eisenhower so I will stay away from him (cont)

  • Retire the boss
    deployed decoy
The rough numbers I just ran for a 1 term senator with one term as president (10 years of federal service) will retire with $26,400 a year. Now let us assume the perk of secret service provided as unearned income, speaking fees and other free stuff and this example falls into the Buffet millionaire tax rule. So lets exercise our right to force the entire elected body on the House, 1/3 of the Senate and the White House into a forced retirement with no VSIP next November. Before they have time to change the current law that makes them wait until 62 to start receiving a annuity or waives 'unearned' income for retired elite. Course the FERS SSS is doomed anyway, no supplement when no social security is paid.

It seems to me that back in the 1980's, the contribution to CSRS was raised to 7.5% for a while. Does anyone else remember this?

  • The party's over
    Jeremiah
Once more Federal employee unions have gotten their fingers burned while trying to play with the political "big boys" inside the Beltway. They tried this first in a major way under Clinton, and got little but a meaningless, anemic "partnership" executive order, concerning which agencies gave it lip service but stonewalled the unions on doing anything of importance. They need to realize that their own virtually unanimous support for the Democrats has marginalized them, i.e., they're being taken for granted, as the view is where else are they going to go? In any event, it's been well and truly said that we Feds have no permamnent friends among the political movers and shakers; they see us as expendable pawns on the political chessboard at best. the Federal unions have proven to be slow learners.

  • Presidential pension
    Tea Partier
I just researched Presidential pensions. They receive the same amount in annual pension as an active Cabinet Secretary, which is slightly below $200k/year. And that doesn't include perks like Secret Service protection or office allowance.

  • silly me

to assume the X Prez would only get 1% of the $400K salary per year... Do me a favor and tell me the rest of these brain dead fools only get 1.9% of high 3, another mistake I made assuming only 1%... so I think a 2 term senator would get closer to $53k...
