obieding by the immigration laws and doing something about the illegals in this country? Many lived and worked here under the table for 5-10-15-20 years and didn't pay 1 dime to Federal Taxes nor Medicare/Social Security. Do something about those on welfare who haven't done a thing to earn the free ride they are getting, I started contributing to Social Security/Medicare when I was 12 years old and my Social Security records prove it. I started working full time since 1982 and still working today, I love to work. Stop the gravy train for those on welfare.

Have you ever tried to live on welfare and food stamps. I have not but I heard what they get and it ain't much. I will say cut the abuses from welfare if it can be done. if possible, get them jobs. Put the kids in day care. Mayber that would help.------------also keep the cuts in defense and the other half could be made up by raising taxes on the wealthy.

I wholeheartedly agree with cutting out welfare abuse. For those of us in apartment complexes, we see this frequently. I have to work my backside off so I can afford to live there at full rent (which is ridiculously high in this area). We have neighbors who are on welfare and have their rent subsidized. They don't work. They have been caught by police numerous times with drugs. I drive a 15 yr old beat up Saturn, and they drive a brand new Mercedes. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? Teach them job skills and get them jobs so they can earn the money and get valuable work experience. And if there are no jobs, let them volunteer at various charities who could use some help. At least they get the idea that there are no free handouts, and they get experience that can help improve their prospects. That being said, I believe these assistance programs are there to help Americans, who through no fault of their own, have had a great hardship. People with decent jobs can find themselves quickly out of them, or if they have to quit to care for a very sick family member or have their own medical battle. That is the purpose of these programs and cutting them is not going to help the many people who are going through a difficult time. Most people will use these programs to help them get back on their feet again, and then will move on. And at the same time, we see the extremely wealthy being defended by these two-faced politicians.

Your position sounds very good for those who are capable of working. However a brand new Mercedes is stretching it unless there is fraud. That should be investigated and the perpetrators jailed. Your workfare point is good unless these welfare people have children. Perhaps daycare at a reasonable price could be found?
