Sorry, but this is another instance of the can being kicked down the road. Why must we go through this month after month, after month. But then it's congress, yek! Not voting for any of them.

  • Be sure to vote, though
    will4567
Showmestate: just because the current crop is a bunch of duds, don't skip voting. That is what they count on - an un-engaged, uninformed electorate that lets the fringes of the parties nominate these clowns. Then they make promises to the fat cats who fund their campaign to get enough ads on that bash their opponent so they can brainwash the few voters that show up. Throw the bums out - but watch to be sure the guy you vote in isn't cut from the same cloth.

  • Fer get about it!
    Rob
You're asking that voters go to the polls and vote incumbents out of office. That seems unlikely considering more than 90% of the incumbents in the House of Reps are reelected every 2 years. The Congress takes a beating for never getting the People's work done and rightly so. 1996 was the last time individual appropriation bills were passed on time and not rolled up into a massive omnibus. However, as bad as Congress is leadership must come for the top. Isn't that true in any business or gov't agency? The leaders set the tone. Our dysfunctional Congress will never become functional as long as we continue to elect leaders who fail to lead.

    Big Joe
Awesome job Congress!! Thanks for kinda doing your job....albeit it late and incomplete. On second thought, you really didn't do your job but gave yourselves permission to procrastinate and slide the schedule down the road a month. Anyway, here is your paycheck for doing....well, here is your paycheck....

At least they didn't wait until the eleventh-hour to keep their massive spending going. And to make sure kids aren't deprived of their pizza and french fries. That is certainly an extremely important issue as we face an economic meltdown. Can you imagine the outrage if schools weren't allowed to furnish them to kids? There would be another Occupy the Schools protest bigger than the ones going on now.

    deployed decoy
Your Bud and apparently god like president. Has added >$1 Trillion to the debt every year (this makes 4 of them with $1.2T next year). I wont dig up what the debt was when Sir godlike replaced Bush, but it is north of $15T now and is scheduled to exceed $25T in 10 years. That would assume Sir God like wins in Nov or not... If the US never incurres a new cent in debt and pays ZERO interest and pays the current debt off at $10,000 per second. It is going to take 47 years. Just a blanaced budget would be a HUGE improvement...

  • shocking honesty in budget numbers, for a change.
    Jerry A.
Deployed, We're seeing shocking honesty in budget numbers, for a change. Obama is reporting the _real_ deficit. Bush did not, so it looks worse for Obama. Blame the right guy. Bush lied in his budgets as much as he lied in his war justifications (yellowcake and WMD). He fired the guy who said that the Iraq war would cost more than $200B, and it's now at $1,200B. He lied when he kept the cost of the Iraq and Afghan wars _off_the_books_ as never-ending "emergency appropriations" in their second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, etc. years. Bush lied when he said his tax cuts would lead to increased revenue. He lied about the cost when he signed an unfunded Medicare part D (drugs), just putting it on the national credit card, that doesn't allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices. (The Repub Congressman Tauzin got a $2M/year job with PhRMA, the drug makers lobby, after writing that tax theft into law.) It is no wonder that Obama's numbers look worse, after Bush kept the money the GOP really spent off the books. By the way, DD, it's nice to see that you can write coherently, for a change. Now try using facts instead of Fox "News" and GOP propaganda as sources.

  • Read the Constitution
    will4567
Last time I checked, the Constitution says that Congress passes spending bills, not the President. The President spends what Congress authorizes, so if you are not happy with our spending blame Congress, not the President. I didn't like the budget the President submitted this year, but since his budget didn't get close to passing you can't blame him for the deficit this year. Congress hasn't passed an actual budget for 2 years. The latest proposal will make that 2.5 years. I really get tired of telling people this. Wish a few people would have passed a Civics class in school.

  • it'll always be Bush's fault
    Rob
It doesn't matter what happens with the economy or the deficit over the next 4 years. Moderate will keep blaming Bush until Hillary's terms are up in 2024. After Hillary gives every baby born in the US a $5000 savings bond the federal deficit should be close to $30T. Come on folks, there aren't enough evil rich folks in this country to pay for the cradle to grave, womb to the tomb, deal you seek.

IRS work funds the government. so cut funding to the IRS and you cut funding to the government, thus increasing the deficit. Real set of brains, but where? Also eliminate funding for the needle exchange program? So we have more HIV. And we add to the nation's medical costs. Therefore, we increase the deficit. Again, Congress lost its brains on that one.

  • don't underestimate them...
    Jerry A.
Moderate, Don't underestimate the Tea Party wing of the GOP. They are running on destroying government. This is not an unintended consequence- this it their stated goal. Mind you, what they say is not what they do. My former Congresscritter (due to redistricting, not overdue retirement or firing) first ran promising to (a) be in office no more than 2 terms and (b) pass term limits into law... twenty years ago (10 terms). They lie about most things, but I think they are sincere in wanting to break the parts of government they hate (IRS, EPA, OSHA, SEC, the new Consumer Protection Bureau) and keep the parts they are paid to promote (DoD, DHS, corporate subsidies). Cutting revenue (taxes) and deliberately increasing deficits is just the excuse they want to privatize Medicare (good for corporate insurance) and slash Social Security a la Ryan's plan.
