    I think the question that should be asked is "What will happen if they DO have an agreement by August 2. That seems more likely and worries me more.

    Because I believe they will agree to something that will be total unacceptable to federal employees -- that's why.

    So, you would prefer no agreement forever? That makes no sense. I know you and I want an agreement acceptable to us, but the issue is that we need an agreement by August 2 without caving in.

    Even if the debt ceiling is not raised on August 2, agencies continue to have appropriations which would permit employees to work for pay. However, the paychecks might be delayed if the debt ceiling isn't raised by the next pay date. I agree that the bigger concern should be what type of budget cuts will be agreed to that impact on the pay and benefits of Federal employees.
