  • Thanks to President Obama and Congress (Sarcastic)
    Just me
I really want to thank President Obama and Congress for their assistance in my decision making process. Thanks to the pay freeze, and the increased cost of health insurance, AND everything else, I decided that I can no longer afford to support the CFC or other charitable contributions. I'm sure that the beneficiaries of those programs understand that everyone has to share in the sacrifice. Thanks to the games the Congress, and the President, have played on the budget, I have decided to avoid spending money that I do not, absolutely have to spend. This, of course, means I won't be buying that new car this year (my Toyota is twelve years old). I also won't be buying any new appliances or furniture. I'm sure that the employees these companies MIGHT have kept on, or hired, if I had spent this money understand that it's about fiscal responsibility and that I had to make hard choices today so that my grandchildren wouldn't be burdened with debt fifty years from now. Thanks to the failure, by the Congress, to address the debt ceiling I have decided to take my retirement funds OUT of the G fund (this year) and invest it a fund where they can't reprogram those funds for their own use. I'm sure that I'm just not willing to subsidize the government's run away spending on a program that is actually harmful to me (Congress). Finally, thanks to the Congress and the President for helping me decide how I will vote in 2012. Here's a hint on how it will go: I am thinking that it's time to apply the same standard to Congress that they want to apply to me and my fellow federal workers. Specifically, if you're an incumbent you might want to brush off the old resume because I will not be voting for your return to office. I'm sure that both the President and Congress will understand that it's not personal, but rather that we need to do something to reduce the cost of government. Getting rid of the incumbents may not solve ALL of the nation's problems...but they will go a long way towards solving the problems of my fellow feds and I.

I totally agree and will do the same with my G fund. Why should I as government worker empower this Congress and this President to kick me and my family in the teeth everyday AND then let them raid my retirement to gut the entire nation. I also will not vote for a single incumbent. I agree 110 percent because I shall agree to the point of deficit agreement. I borrowed the extra 10 percent from my workplace enthusiasm. The politics of the this nation of destroying the actual content of this nation. Sad, very sad.

I'm so glad to see that others will be joining me in removing the incumbents. I have been bashed and brow-beaten for far too long. So, yes, send them packing.

You so right and I changed my Retirement fund too. Who gives congress the right to borrow on people's retirement plans? China is going to end up crashing eventually and will take a lot of other countries down. Now with that said, I basically agree with every message on this board. The entire BS about Fed Employees benefits are better than the private sector and need to be equaled out is BS! This is about congress trying to make it extremely hard for Fed Employees with hopes of DRIVING THEM OUT and to make sure potentials that are looking this way STAY OUT! Why you think congress want to privatize the Gov out to the big business? This is money for them and the richer. You can forget about the best and brightest expression because there are no best and brightest in congress, these ridiculous people donít care about us or our families what-so-ever. They havenít the common sense to even stop and think about this, itís all about MONEY!! But you can thank Americans/Fed Employees who sat on their butts and are easily swayed because they are to LAZY to think for themselves. I know we all have a right to pick and choose, but who in their right mind will vote for these tea party and republican tyrants? Oh and letís not forget about those Dem who had the opportunity to get the budget on the table, but instead chose to wait and now crying about the republicans want to do this and that. They are all playing with our lives, they can feed their families, keep their healthcare intact and their retirement, but FORCE their stupid ideas on us and we cannot say a thing about. Congress writes these laws to govern us, but exempt themselves, if this isnít totalitarianism than I must be crazy?

  • It's the Republicans
    Moderate
It is the Republicans who are pushing to stick it to us. Look at Heritage Foundation and Cato articles. Look at Ryan and the House Republicans. The Democrats did not initiate any of this garbage. Do not let the radical right have the Democrats share the blame when you go to the polls.

  • Thank the Republicans
    Moderate
You can thank the Republicans and their allies for the wage freeze etc. CATO and the Heritage foundation have been pounding out the idea that we are overpaid. They always point to average salaries as documentation. Ryan and his allies have been pushing to freeze our salaries a few more years. Yet the radical right is trying to let Obama and the Democrats share in this farce. Don't be fooled. it is the Republicans sticking it to us and will continue to do so with the budgets and the debt ceiling.

I agree that federal employees need to start sending a message back to Congress. The use of refusing to participate in the Combined Federal Campaign is an option. Another option is to do mass mailings to your local and state representatives. A better yet option is to, for the next year, use all your earned sick leave and cause that impact to hit Congress in the face. The best option though is to ensure you vote these folks out every chance you get. When I entered government service, almost 40 years ago, I was forced to abide by federal regulations for everything from timekeeping to how I worked and interacted with my customers. When I became a manager and senior person I ensured my staff and their staffs followed the rules, and counselled those who did not. It amazes me, it shocks me, it freaks me out that Congress can and does change the rules whenever they want - case in point the constant raising of the debt ceiling. One thing I learned working these past almost 40 years in government is that Congress and the politicians in it are the only ones in America who do not have to live by the rules -- they have wanton sex with whomever they want and get away with it, they - like Rangle - steal money and get away with it, they lie and people think it is the truth, and most of all they abuse the federal employee like we are their slaves of the 1700s -- has America changed since the Revolution - Heck No! Do we need another - revolution where we throw out the current 'regime' - Heck Yes!!

Don't think for one minute retirees are safe from this current mean-spirited congress. They're also looking at raising our health premiums and we've been paying increased premiums during the 2 years we haven't seen a COLA; in order to keep us from getting even a tiny COLA increase next year they're looking at the formula used to determine COLA increases; they're after medicare; blah blah blah. Join the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. Google NARFE for information. They are the largest group working diligently on active and retired feds behalf. Oh, and don't forget that the Treasury is now tapping the federal retirement fund to cover debt now that the Republicans have had their way and blocked increasing the debt limit. The market crash that will happen when the US defaults will wipe out every penny of your TSP and other savings. Even that prospect doesn't seem to affect the likes of these people ill suited to be in Congress.

  • Besieged Feds
    Govt Mule
I have had it up to my eyeballs with Congress demonizing federal employees. I've said it before and I'll say it again....THIS CONGRESS DOES NOT CARE THAT FEDS ARE TAXPAYING AMERICANS TOO!!!! They, for some reason, think we're overpaid. That's one of the biggest lies ever told. The only overpaid millionaires who work for the government are....OH MY GRACIOUS...in Congress!! Please, my fellow feds, when the time comes, whether you're a democrat or republican, keep your pay check, health insurance, and pension/TSP in mind when you VOTE!!!! I guarantee you those persons we call members of Congress surely are....and with the worst of intentions.

  • Bright ideas never end
    Mr Devonic
Keep up the great work budgetary policymakers! Not only are you discouraging the best and the brightest young folks from joining federal service, you are signaling the feds with the most institutional knowledge on complex programs to leave government service as soon as possible. Any other bright ideas?
