  • Gagged and Bound doesnt feel so good

My apprehensions, anger, and frustration came in waves. It started under Bush. NSPS infuriated me as I couldnt believe the hundreds of millions of dollars pumped in to that failure of a system I was forced to be under while at DoD. I couldnt believe despite the cries of this idiotic system-no one was changing it. Never did I feel so undervalued for the mounting work I did while at DoD. I left DoD because of it and some of my anger was relieved. This Iraq war cost us billions upon billions-maybe even trillions I am sure. The dominos started to fall with the housing market crash, bailouts, layoffs, recession, and wars we couldnt afford to engage in. I felt almost paralized by all of the stress swirling around. Then Obama was elected and like a whoosh, the tension was released. I thought, FINALLY, someone on our side! Then the anger and frustration was felt all over again as I felt I was in a bad dream unable to yell loud enough-feeling gagged, while the Republicans started their fed employee bashing campaign during the up for grabs elections this past Nov. Between listening to campaigning lawmakers degrading me so and purposely selling to the people to threaten to financially kill me as a fed worker, wondering if somehow I would be affected greatly by the collapse of our economy, it was just too much. My family survived the recession unscathed. Am maybe I worried for nothing because our finances were always solid-but when you see people around you collapsing-I couldnt help but think I would be infected by this economic virus too? Never have I felt as a citizen, a group pf powerful people with money and media at their disposal, out to get me as I did these last 4-5 yrs. Perhaps its always been this way with federal service. And maybe back then, I was too young to pay attention. Now. It all matters, as I get older, have a child, and am always trying to balance life with the other added day to day life of what it takes to live in the DC metro area. Am I still angry? Yes. I am still apprehensive? Yes. Why? Because this will happen all over again in 6 months when we will as fed workers will be served on a platter for the next budget in 6 months. The thought of going through this again is awful. I know some would say, well if you dont like it, get another job. But unless you live in a bubble, there isnt much out there. I only share because it was a topic today, but I just suck it up and deal because at the end of the day, I do have a job and thats what this country has come to: being grateful for literally the basic things-nothing more.

No Mike, It would be cruel and unusual punishment to make a eunuch out of an elected official (with pain). First we all know not a one of those people have a set anyway, they spend all day attempting to show they do however. If they did, we would use local pain suppressants (only the shot would hurt) while said body parts were removed with red hot snippers (to cauterize the sterile wound instantly with very minimal additional health care costs added). This way they could watch it happen, kind of a free perk just for congress. If they had this much trouble over 1% of the budget (actually about 1/100% for FY11), the rest spread out over something like the next 10 years. I stand ready to enjoy both the FY12 budget and much sooner the debt ceiling discussions. I think the comedy channel is going to start carrying these debates live. Me I am holding out for the red hot snipper channel.

  • How do I feel? Tired and beaten.
    Just me
I am a federal manager with, about, twenty-five years of government service. I am/was an excepted employee for purposes of the shutdown. At this point I feel tired and beaten by the protracted mugging feds were given by Congress. I formerly thought that I might continue to work after I was eligible to retire. My sense was that the work I do is important, I like what I do, and I had something of value ot contribute. Now the only thing keeping me here is my TSP. As soon as I have the financial ability to retire I'm probably going to get out. I suspect that I'm not the only person in this particular "boat." In the interim I'm just plugging away at my job, but the desire to excel is pretty much dead (at least for now.) Why would anyone want to do more for a boss who despises them and takes every opportunity to villify and revile them (as Congress does)?

Yup. I took care of my folks. I remember what it was like last time, during the shutdown, back when I had a really wise manager named Phil who bucked the system and told us what was what when I was a newb. Now it's my turn to stand in for Phil and to try to point this new generation of feds in the right direction. They're a pretty good lot, even if they're greener than hell. I figure that if I take care of them then they're free to take care of the mission.

All individuals with a background in Public or Business Administration know about the Hawthorne Effect. That is people react differently if they know they are being observed and treated differently. There also is Maslow hierarchy of needs, dealing wtih food, shelter and self esteem. Well our Congress and our President, regardless of political party, abused and violated federal employees. Our politicians treated the federal employee as a pawn and for their own selfish reasons. There is a reason they call as civil or public servants. We serve, we serve America. It is obvious today, more than ever, that American 'politicians' no longer see federal employees as civil servants. Soon we will be celebrating Public Employee Recognition. We need to ensure no politician is invited. They all are phoney and truly not our supporters. Obama had the gaul to send a day late and a dollar short email to federal employees. Where was he during the crisis? What did he do to support us? Federal employees can bounce back because we are dedicated and professional. Too bad our politicians can not say the same. They all should be labelled what they are: Abusive, Ignorant, Prejudiced, and Arrogant.

But what can we do? We still have people blaming Bush which shows how easily misled people are. Yes we were/still are pawns. I'm guessing the honor students and best and brightest will take that into account during their job hunts. But we also know the wealth effect exists, meaning that some of these exempted people now have the proof that the really are better than the rest of us. (and the perks to go with it). The divide and conquer has not backfired on them yet.

I neither view Bush, either one of them, or Obama, or any President for the current economic play in motion. I blame somewhat the Congress and politicians who are easily swayed by lobbyists and big business. America lives on capitalism, to live that life government looks the other way, to ensure money is available for these large corporations to ply their wares. The federal employee, like the palace guard of past or the feudal servant, is supposed to know their place. Unfortunately most of us received more schooling than many of our private sector counterparts. We need to stop being part of the problem, and start providing the solution. Action is what is needed. Folks, as I said before, need to join NARFE, a union, an association, or write their Member of Congress. We need to Stand Up.

We can both agree that blaming Bush is not a plan. However, he is a major reason for the economic issues of today. Obama's plan is to stimulate the economy with government spending on various useful projects. This stimulus does create a huge deficit that, we agree, is not sustainable over an extended period of time. HOPEFULLY, this stimulus will help the economy recover and increase tax revenues which should be used to lower and eliminate the deficit.

I don't know what you’re sipping on, but Bush is a MAJOR player in this game. Rather you want to play dumb or not I can careless. Bush did a lot of real stupid stuff as president and people like you RAN to the poles, not once (he stole), but twice. There was absolutely no reason for the US soldiers to have gone over to that Middle East crisis, except to help Israel if needed. Soldiers have died over for NOTHING!! And still are for NOTHING!! If he managed to get Sadam H, then the troops should have been pulled out. He wasted millions, maybe trillions of taxpayers (including you, me and everyone else’s) dollars searching for Bin Laden. It has been well over 8 yrs and Bin Laden is still FREE or do you not get this waste? GWB stupidity has trickled downward ever since and we are still feeling the effects of it. – Obama puts his spin on top of GWB mess; Obama MAJOR Problem is borrowing (which needs to STOP!! It has pushed this country farther into debt).-- Whoa, but wait, lets move on to the REAL culprits, congress, without a shadow of a doubt. The country is ROYALLY messed-up due to congress and their antics. Now we have this new breed of men who are RICH running for office to better themselves, their rich friends and big businesses. Americans to start listening, most of us just ride on that crazy bandwagon and get all hyped up and RUN straight to the poles to put that slick snake in there. It is always afterward when the pain hit’em. Oh, I should have never voted for him/her. Too late ya didn’t listen and Wisconsin is a prime example, look who they voted for and look at what has happened. Americans need to pay attention, listen and open their eye to who they are voting for.

Then why didn't the Dems defund the war? They tried to have it both ways: support the troops vs. anti-Bush. I guess it's hard to reconcile your inner Michael Moore. Somebody brought up third parties, a few weeks ago. Maybe it's time for that. But I voted for Perot, and I didn't think it worked out too well at the time, but the 90s sure look better. It's pretty obvious current Feds are getting shafted. But even the unions have a love affair with the Dems. I'm not sure how that helps when the Dems throw us under the bus.

I agree that the Democrats should have defunded the Iraqi war. They even passed a bill that gave Bush one year to pull the troops out of Iraq. Bush vetoed it. The Dems then backed down and passed the bill Bush wanted instead of telling Bush that if he did not sign that bill he would get no money for Iraq and would have to pull the troops out at that time. Your characterization of support the troops vs anti Bush is wrong. One can still support the troops and get them out of a war we had no business being in. Note that the above comments are not a reference to the war in Afghanistan which I support.

Excuse me. But we have helped Israel... We gave them NUCs a long time ago. We give them the best weapons the USA produces every year. We gave them a country for that matter. They in return use heavy weapons and strike aircraft of peolple witrh sticks andf rocks building homes on the land those people legally own. Then use massive amonuts of $$$ to buy freinds in the White House inner circle (whoever that may be on any given year). If I have a vote the USA would have long ago seized all Isreal assetts in the USA, and placed a air/sea blockade around the fools until they learend to play nice with EVERYONE. But heck I could say the same thing for the most part for Saudi na Kuwait, both documented slave states that enslave white and brown people to do all the work. Thus oil costs about $5 to get out of the ground here. I just hope Israel uses some of those NUCs. Takes a few players out around here and gives the UN a reason to terminate Israel right to be a country. Many problesm solved and your car could have a back up NUC reactor to burn the radiation when the gas runs out.

Your figures don't impress me nor your comment. The point here is that the US need Israel when the crap hit the fan in the Middle E and I can see that he's trying to smooth it over with the haters of this country, but one can't use their religion to straddle the fence either. This country need to stay by Israel side. The Israelites are not the ones who call the US infidels, they are not the ones who strap bombs to kids and brainwash them by stating, "kill the enemy and you get 10 virgins at the pearly gates." LOL! US need to drop those heathen countries and stay focused on keeping the relationship to Israel strong. And by the way, read the bible (King James Version) and get your facts straight about the land. The land belongs to Israel because God gave it to them by way of Abraham, the rest of those people who surrounds Israel are people who keep crying about it's their land.

You write about Israel being the bad guy. The Arabs tried to stop Israel's formation in 1948. Nassar would not allow the Israelies to use the Suez canal in 1956 (another war) The Arabs blockded the Gulf of Aqaba in 1967. They invaded Israel in 1973. The terrorists shoot rockets into Israel continuously. They kidnap and murder Israelies continuously. They have hundreds of millions of people hostile to Israel while the Israelies have a few million people. And you oject becuase the Israelies do not play nice, while they get murdered? First, I will stay out of the reliogious aspects because it depends on what religion one is. Each religion believes it is the correct one.--------------------------------------- I have no evidence to show the the IUS gave Israel nules. Israel does have nukes, but how did they get them?-----------------------------------------------------------------I was unaware that we gave them that country. I thought they fought a war of independence in 1948. They also fought against overwhelming odds after they agreed to a resolution to the split of Palestine in 1947 or 48. They Arabs did not agree and attempted to drive the Jews into the sea. The Arabs lost that war. Taking it back further, the Balfour declaration in 1917 divided the area into what was to be Israel (the full land) and Palestine, which is now Jordan. Prior to that time it was Arab and prior to that time, it was something else and prior to that it was Hebrew. (continued)

Well I can comprehend your thoughts on the religion part, but it is all about religion and the HATRED that these arab countries has for Israel. On that note. I guess some people thinks Israel just suppose to sit there and continuously get blown up/ kidnapped and murdered? I really don't blame Israel for their actions toward these no good heathen countries. All these people do is use God's name in all their RIDCULOUS excuses to murder Israelites and Americans by association of the GWB reign. As far as Obama, he is muslim and they don't like Israel, I'm not saying all muslim nor Obama doesn’t. I'm simply saying that most of us know the history. Israel has given those heathens land after land and these people are never satisfied, they continue to want more of Israel’s land. If I am not mistaken, I think this was one of the reasons as to why Obama and Shimon Peres had that falling out. Although Obama is trying to smooth things out over there, he need to realize too that the Israelites are the ones who are taking the most hits from these heathen devils and Israel has a right to protect their lands, people and way of life. You right too about that war, Israel fought against I believe 5 or 7 arab countries at the time when they came up against Israel, who WON and those heathen arab countries LOST. No, I am not a racist if anyone asks, I just don’t understand why the US continues to support these arab nations who obviously CANNOT BE TRUSTED and HATES not only Israel, but the USA too. Go figure?

I'm a 27 year career Federal employee. I've seen administrations, majority parties and agency leadership come and go. The last time we had an actual shutdown I don't recall so much "preparation" and wasted staff time on an event that may (or in this case) did not happen. We've spent the better part of this month running ad hoc reports, preparing notifications and systems, and "identifying" essential personnel. Hours and hours of time wasted simply because the Democrats punted the budget to the newly elected majority and the Republicans see the Federal workforce as a target rich environment. Our politicians who, by the way, are Constitutionally bound to "raise and support Armies...To provide and maintain a Navy..." and to collect revenue for said efforts have failed miserably in their duties.
